Thai Vigo or Pakistani vigo bumpy ride any solution

Hi all,

I an willing to buy vigo either thai vigo or Pakistani new model 4x4 however the main concern which is making me reluctant is it's uncomfortable ride, I will appreciate if any of you may share your views if there is any enhancements possible to make it a non bumpy / comfortable ride and what do you think Pakistani new 4x4 is a better option or the thai vigo the one difference I am aware about that Pakistani 4x4 doesn't have cruise control whereas it is available in thai vigo. Good knowable views will be highly appreciated

The locally manufactured truck is called Hilux Turbo. It has a smaller engine displacement thant the Vigo(thai manufactured). The Hilux turbo comes with a 2KD engine 2500cc diesel where as the Vigo comes with a 1KD engine 3000cc diesel(some come with a intercooler too). The Hilux has a 5 speed manual tranny where as the Vigo comes with a automatic transmission.. The Hilux lacks a few gadgets such as a cruise control, power seats and leather seating which are quite common in the imported Vigos. These are the basic differences.. I'm not too sure what do you mean by a bumpy ride though.. The new hilux and the vigo have a comfortable drive compared to other vehicles in its category

go for a local or a fresh import.

The used ones that have been here for more than a year or so, must have suffered the thrash of high sulpher in local diesel.( Sulpher is a D4d Killer, google it for more info).

its only been a while since the ministry of petroleum has taken measures to reduce the sulpher content. fso teh choice for you is
1- Local Hilux with 2.5 L D4D manual gear, @ 2.7 Milliom
Or
2-Thai Vigo 3.0 with D4D,Heavy on Fuel for 3.8 Million.

1. My point of view of bumpy ride means it is not comfortable on the normal city roads, it's give uncomfortable ride apparently it may be due to suspension design or something to do with shocks, I am comparing it with surf and Prado or even with Nissan 4x4 dubbel cabin. so again the question is same is there any enhancement option available to improve the comfort level

2. I understand pak model is having 2500 cc engin whereas thai model is 3000cc engin although I like to know hp each of them generate, is it the case that Pak model is underpower like 2700cc surf.

3. What is the per litter milage of both Pak and thai model

First of all, you need to understand that the Vigo is a truck, a very nice looking one, but it is a truck. You have leaf springs in the rear suspension. Leaf springs will always be harsh when there is no load on them allowing them to compress. If you have a serious problem with this, all you need to do is to put a couple of hundred Kgs of weight at the back of the truck, you'll see how much the ride changes. This is not ideal, ideal would be for you to get used to the fact that you are sitting in a truck who's number one preference is to not give you the most comfortable ride possible in a 4x4 machine.

Next, the 2KD is not an underpowered engine, especially when mated to a manual gearbox. Its not a rocket like 1KD with the auto tranny is, but you'll enjoy it. The 2.7L Surf engine you are referring to is a gasoline/petrol engine. The torque dynamics are totally different.

Mileage should not be your concern when looking at rides like these, understand that no matter what you do, it will never be good. The sooner you understand it, the better for you mentally. Don't expect more than 7-8 kms on a great day in any Vigo in the city.

I had the pleasure to drive the new South African spec Vigo. it had the 1kd variable nozzle turbo intercooled engine. electric leather seats and manual gearbox. I thought it was pretty comfortable.. almost up there with the 100 series prado. perhaps the suspension is set up differently in the thai and pakistani spec.

But like RKR said, dont expect it to be a cadillac.

I just bought a brand new Pakistani Hilux.
The Ride is not ideal but is good enough in its class of vehicles.
I have driven 3000 Vigo. It has a tendency to spin wheels every time you press throttle this can give you surprises usually while overtaking also I was not too happy with braking.
The Hilux Turbo is much better to drive. I took it to Thandiani yesterday and was surprised by its performance its first and second gear ratio is excellent for those steep hills, the engine was effortless and I was at Thandiani in 30 Mins. from Abbottabad. It's performance was excellent and better than any SUV.
Vigo is according to my point of view overpowered while the Hilux just feels great.

Your solution is leaf springs conversion to coil springs ........ but I wouldn't recommend that one a newer vehicle, not at-least here in Pk.

I know how you feel about the drive, the simplest solution is to put weight in the rear like RKR said.

You get traction bags abroad, they sit low on the rear bed and are filled with water to give you better traction in the rear wheels.

I have found a sack of wheat in the rear to be an excellent stabilizer. You can fill a gunny bag (bori) with sand and place it on the bed.

Its simple, yet practical without changing much. Ride quality changes & there's no harm in trying it out to see yourself.

I'd go for the Indus Hilux though, with 16" wheels.

Agree with Sarmad. Also, for a cheap way to test it out, we've done this on DeeDee's Unimog 421 (not leaf sprung, has portals, but even harder without weight!), is to add several sand bags, wet them as much as you can, this increases weight tremendously. His Unimog is extremely stiff without weight, but when we did the wet sand bori thing, it became almost too soft.

At the end, for me, and for most offroaders, the ride in the Hilux (Vigo) is very plush compared to some of the other stuff we ride But give it a shot, and I agree, I would go for the Hilux versus the Vigo, its more manly I feel.

With a 4x4 vehicle though, if it appeals to you even though you know the weaknesses, don't think twice and go for it, and if you have doubts, no matter what you do later on, you'll end up regretting it. You have no idea how ridiculous some of us think each others' rides are, but passion, and that feeling of having the one that feels right to YOU, and nobody else, will outweigh any other flaws. Look at that ugly, old, cheap Pajero in my avatar, I liiieeeoooovvvve it! Its almost like choosing the right job/profession, just my two cents.

The 1KD-FTV is a 3.0L (2982cc) straight-4 common rail diesel engine with a variable geometry turbocharger and Intercooler. It has 16 valves and a DOHC (double overhead camshaft) design. Bore is 96 mm and stroke is 103 mm. It generates 170 hp (125 kW) at 3400 rpm, and 260 lbf·ft (352 N·m) of torque at 1800-3400 rpm. Redline of this engine is at 4200 RPM. Compression ratio is 17.9:1.

While

the 2KD-FTV is the 2nd generation of the KD series of engine with a smaller 2.5 L (2494 cm³) displacement.
The displacement of this engine is based on the previous 2L engine. Bore remains the same 92 mm but stroke is increased to 93.8 mm. It has 16 valves and is a DOHC engine with a turbocharger and intercooler.

VN Turbo 1kd is just awesome.. rear wheel spin on demand in 1 2 and 3rd gear.... no lag and very responsive.. I'm sure the VN 2KD is also as much fun to drive..

Of course one can always swap a 2kd to 1kd when the IP or injectors go 200,000k upgrade is not so bad..

Guys, I have been told that to make vigo ride comfortable there is an option to replace it's shocks with japanese Toyota truck shocks, I understand several persons already done that,

I heard from our friends out there, to soften the ride, they remove one blade from the rear leaf spring, is it true ?

Any of u have try this ? Please share your experience. :S

Air down all four tires to 26Psi , put two sand bags at least 50 kg each in the back side of bed as a permanent load. Try to put it in a plastic bag so sand wont make your Hilux bed dirty.[/I][I]
