The 2017 Civic X is giving a fuel average of 6-7 km per liter

Hi,

I bought a 2017 Civic X, and it has its original paint. The problem, I think, is that the previous owner only performed basic maintenance, like changing the air/oil filter and oil. The car has 92,000 km on it. What should I be doing or checking to improve the car's fuel average?

Moreover, the temperature gauge was high when I took the car from the previous owner's home, but the liquid pipes were leaking. I got the radiator cleaned by Honda, and it resolved the issue. However, I still feel like the bonnet and engine get hotter than usual, although the gauge remains normal. What are your recommendations or suggestions?

Did someone teach you how to determine engine temperature by feeling the bonnet? Who was this kung fu ninja monk?

Why not use instruments like an actual scan tool to read actual temperature or even an IR thermometer on the engine cyl head itself?

What's the usual amount of hot, and how much hotter is it to you than that? My 200,000+km Civic 8th Gen has the same engine, and it turns the fan on at 101 degrees Celsius. You think I want to feel or gauge that with my hands?

What? I'm glad the fuel pipes were leaking, otherwise the temperature gauge would've been high. What does that have to do with anything?

Use coolant. Is your car running on tap water? Tap water is boiling at 100 degrees Celsius. It is becoming a gas. A water pump cannot predictably pump a gas through the channels in your engine, radiator, heater, and the rest of the cooling system.

Tap water is boiling at 100 degrees Celsius. It is becoming a gas. A water pump cannot predictably pump a gas through the channels in your engine, radiator, heater, and the rest of the cooling system.

Water boils and turn into gas at 100’C but only at STP (Standard Temperature & Pressure).

Cooling system is under pressure in the vehicles which doesn’t let water to boil even at 100+ temperatures.

Every owner keeps the vehicles as per their own mind-set of maintenance. You bought a 2nd hand car and not zero meter. So it doesn’t look decent to go back to the owner for every repair or every issue.

This is summer. You drive a healthy vehicle like 1-2 km and touch the bonnet after 5 minutes after parking it. You will feel that someone drove it from Karachi to Peshawar.

First check the coolant and it should be full.

Does you car has heat gauge ? if yes, then just keep an eye on it while driving. I should not go above than its normal position which is at middle.

And if it doesn’t has heat gauge, then there must be a sensor in the cluster. If engine overheats, the read light turns on in the cluster. If it happens, you have to pull over immediately and let it cool and don’t drive. Keep a gallon of water in the trunk just case of emergency situation like overheat.

Your car is like new. If its running smoothly then just keep it driving and change the fluids on time. That’s it.
