i wonder how much this vehicle will cost if imported to PK through the dealer network? and woudl it be wise to offer a car which is so close to the aveo in dimensions?

i wish import duties become realistic so that we can finally have some better choices (rather than sh!tvics, cr@pollas and c*ntuses)

if not imported atleast localy manufactured Nexus autos already had assembled the Joy. its better to assemble cars on order rather then importing them with no sales, and they get dust jst standing idle.

In case of Nexus importing is better option than direct assembling by the time they full penetrate into market. Currently they are assembling Joy only. They would need more capacity to assemble Sail (Joy is already being assembled on idle capacity of Gandhara plant). If there will be low demand of sail the plant will be idle and they will not be able to allocate the capacity to any other model since only joy is being assembled locally. And hence, the company will be bearing heavy fixed costs and loss on investment.
So IMO, initially they should import few units and create demand. As the demand increases they should increase the number of units and then after foreseeing successful future they should start assembling Sail.

SAIC and GM Announce Expansion of Cooperation in Asia

Shanghai – Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation Group (SAIC) and General Motors Company announced today that the two automakers are expanding their cooperation in Asia.

SAIC and GM, which currently operate eight joint ventures in China, have formed a new 50-50 joint venture investment company, General Motors SAIC Investment Limited. Situated in Hong Kong, it will facilitate their expansion efforts. They also announced plans to leverage their resources to support expansion in emerging markets, beginning with India.

Based on the automotive industry’s long-term potential for growth in India, SAIC and GM have formulated a joint strategy for investment in the country. They will utilize GM’s two vehicle manufacturing facilities and a powertrain facility in India and GM’s nationwide distribution network in the formation of a new joint venture.

Small cars from Shanghai GM and mini-commercial vehicles from SAIC-GM-Wuling, SAIC and GM’s manufacturing joint ventures in China, will be produced and sold in India. These products will join GM’s global vehicles, allowing GM India to quickly add entries in growing market segments. The establishment of the India joint venture is expected to be finalized in the first quarter of 2010. GM believes the additional models and potential volume growth will result in the creation of more jobs in India.

“Changes in the worldwide economy have created new opportunities in emerging markets,” according to Hu Maoyuan, Chairman of SAIC. “By leveraging our individual assets and those of our China joint ventures, SAIC and GM are in a strong position to introduce competitive products outside China that will satisfy the needs of consumers in India and other high-potential global markets.”

Nexus is currently importing only. Production of Joy was stopped back in 2009. Currently a local made Spark or any other car does not seem to be in sight. The whole problem was that Joy's production cost was very high and sales volume were not sufficient to earn profits.

If this car is imported it would not be priced less than 12 lakhs for the base 1.2 model. Plus although almost everyone agrees that Chevrolet vehicles are good in quality but people are very reluctant to buy them due to the resale factor.

Also Nexus wants investment from GM U.S, lets hope they get the required funding.

For now Cruze is just around the corner. It has performed well in other countries, lets see how it performs here.

The duty structure doesnt alloys that at all, while the obsessed market has put its hands of the local Liana (petrol ones are okay, Cng ones are problematic)

u cannot expect an over priced sedan again. either the goverment shud give some expemtions or the company would have to put in some huge discounts to get the price competitive for a imported sedan car.

8.5 lacs is minus shipping, import duty and premium of the importer correct? I am sure it would be well over a million in Pakistan

The Sail Hatchback!

Previous incarnations of the Sail have been in Buick guise and were basically notch back sedans of the European Opel Corsa, although it did come in wagon form but never hatch form, at least until now. The Sail seems to have taken a massive dose of Cruze style to its nose end and also on the insides, all of which look to have been dramatically improved in this latest generation of car.

Engine power will still come from a 1.4l and 1.2L S-TEC engine which is also used in the Chevrolet Spark. The 1.2L model produces 87bhp whilst the 1.4L is 103BHP and has a max torque of 131Nm, both of which are more than enough for the city center.

This model is certainly one to watch and will be on display at the Beijing Auto Show later this month.
