In regular automotive batteries , manufactures with thin plates to give maximum surface area in order to give maximum initial current to start the engine. they are not designed to discharge below their 50 % capacity, if drag below this i.e discharge more than 50% ,life will be reduced considerably. That why these batteries dont lat more than a year in our pakistani load shedding senario. On the other hand deep cylce bateries can not give large amount of cuurent on initial engine stating since plate no. are reduced and their thickness increased so that they can discharge upto 80% of their capacity safely. Recently Atlas battery introduced hybrid battery for cars which is a compromise of both senario, i.e combination of thick & thin plates inside. bottom line is any battery manufactured with thick lead plates are suitable for inverters.
