Terrific thread. You all appear to be true enthusiasts, so my admiration for that, straight off.

I'm rebuilding a '67 Impala, and have purchased a set of 275/40/20 wheels for it. The wheel arches have enough space for the rims to be partially encased within them, even if a 1 inch spacer is added (to cater for PCD differences of the rims and the hubs, and to allow smooth steering without rubbing). Would anyone have any suggestions for springs/shocks to cater for a low drop? Any advice about someone who could do this modification for me in Pindi / Islamabad?

Any suggestions would be very welcome, and appreciated.

Oh yes 20's on Imapla wont be a problem even after adding spacers- could be significantly dropped without even altering the camber
But if pcd is NOT a problem then
instead of spacers i guess ur set of RIMS should have been staggered (that would solve the steering issues)
Rest if ur thinking of altering the stock springs for the drop then i would say its not something wise to do
What options do u have ? , import something for it (not the complete air ride that u want , but something that would be prominent and cheap to handle in all aspects

PCD IS a bit of a problem. The rims are 114.3 PCD, whilst the hubs are 114 dead. So, unless I tool the rims, somewhat (and totally @#$% them up), spacers are the only way to go.

So...no altering the stock springs? Um...then how am I supposed to drop it? Any ideas or options for hardware that can be imported from abroad?

Well as far as i remember , coilovers would cost around 2500$-3000$ and lowering kits would cost around 80$-150$ excluding shipping and duty
famous brands advised for lowering Vintage/ Muscle machines are
-Eibach
-Beltech
-Ridetech etc

Thanks for the reply. It got me to searching the Internet for some answers specific to American Steel. I thought I'd share with everyone.

Apparently, the two cheapest ways to drop your ride are:-

Simply chop off the top "ring" of the coils. This will cause the suspension to lower by about 2 inches. Best way to do this is a "cold cut" as cutting through it with heat, may cause deformity/warping of the coil springs.
The second option is to use modified spindles, which are commercially available for different models. These seat the wheel hubs higher against the body, and thus "lower" the body correspondingly against the wheels. Using this method, no additional modifications to the suspension are required. While this is more expensive to adopt (against a coil chop), it also allows you to look into other possibilities like disc brake conversions and the like.

Just thought I'd add a bit of my personal research this excellent thread. However, as with ALL automotive modifications...please consult an expert before trying them out!

I would stick to option # 2 , though more expensive - But safety comes first
