As also established, owning a car in Pakistan means you're in the top 2% of the population. So petrol/diesel cars are also only for the rich. By that logic, this forum is only for the rich.

I didn't want to participate in the 'discussion' on this thread anymore due to some reasons, but this last post compelled me to do it again.

Please don't mind but you are seriously mixing up the affordability of the poor and rich here, when it comes to cars. An FX and 90s model Mehran are available in Rs. 400,000/- budget, and are usually owned by people who fall in the lower income group.

An Audi e - tron may cost up to 17 million rupees and runs for very little mileage before it needs charging. That is why it is only for elite class. A person owning 90s Mehran may be in the 2 percent category of car owners in the overall population, but you seriously think that he can purchase an e - tron?

I have read your posts in other threads and admire those. But believe me, I was not expecting such a comment from you.

I was just stating the facts. It may sound bizarre, but that is the state of our country. If you can afford to own and maintain a car, any car, even if its a 40 years old beater box. You belong to the top 2% of Pakistan. Its just a statistical fact. It doesn't mean you're actually rich by global standards, it means Pakistanis are extremely poor.

The "true" rich and privileged who can afford Audis are in such small number that they are negligible in comparison, probably less than 0.01%

Also, there is more to electric vehicles than Audi e-tron. Its an internationally expensive car, it starts at $65,900 in U.S. or 11 million rupees at current exchange rate.

No one is importing cheaper EVs in Pakistan at this time. For example Nissan Leaf with 240 km range starts at $31,600 or 5 million rupees, less than half the price of Audi e-tron.

Renault Zoe is the most popular electric car in Europe which starts at €23,900 in France, or 4.5 million rupees, and has 395 km battery range.

Audi e-tron is for rich people globally. Its just that Audi is the only automaker officially importing and selling its electric car in Pakistan with brand warranty. It falls in luxury category and should have a price tag of around 40 million rupees if it had a petrol engine.

Rich people are buying Audi e-tron because its the only luxury SUV that you can buy brand new in this price range in Pakistan. It has nothing to do with it being an EV.

New Toyota Prado starts at 27 million, and Audi e-tron starts at 17 million.

Since you have to have a petrol car with electric car at this time in Pakistan because of zero charging infrastructure, its more environmentally damaging to own two cars than one petrol car. The only way to better the environment is to have only one electric car, no car is even better. So, anyone buying electric cars on top of petrol cars is contributing to global emissions, as EV manufacturing has higher CO2 footprint than ICE cars due to its batteries.

Also, in case of only one electric car, the electricity must come from renewable sources to be environmentally friendly, not coal/diesel/gas, like in Pakistan.

When motor cars were invented, people never thought they would be able to replace horses.

When newer technologies are introduced and they are replacing the old ones, people always tend to resist it. Resistance slowly but surely goes away. Just 25 years ago we used to see horse pulled carts even in islamabad/rawalpindi. 25 years later they are not used for common transport. Similarly in 20 years, we will see a shift towards electric cars.

Just 25 years ago we used to see horse pulled carts even in islamabad/rawalpindi. 25 years later they are not used for common transport.

25 years ago the horse/donkey carts were ONLY seen in I - 11 area around Sabzi Mandi in Islamabad because that area was illegally been inhabited by Afghanis. Later that sector was got evacuated by CDA and Police on the orders of Supreme Court. So now you don't get to see many donkey carts here.

Islamabad was a much better city with much better civic conditions at that time. There were few sectors, totally controlled and maintained by CDA. There was less traffic, less commercialization, and less expansion. Now, there are water shortages in some sectors, natural gas shortages in other. Many roads are in dilapidated condition. Traffic congestion is a norm. CDA is struggling to have its control and to provide adequate facilities to the residents.

There is no point in trying to prove that Islamabad has become a modern city in the last 25 years with better transportation facilities and cars replacing horse carts. And then predicting that, in the same way petrol/diesel cars shall be replaced by EV.

Whatever the stats show, the ground reality is that currently most of the car owners cannot afford an EV like Audi. And, the elite class are not buying it because they are environmentally conscious or they want to save money they currently spend on their fuel guzzlers.

EV can make inroads in Pakistan if it is made more affordable for the masses. Many people shall buy it if it is in 3 million budget. Secondly, the Charging infrastructure has to be expanded and improved. Chinese companies can be asked to assist in both these propositions.

Till that time we may continue to enjoy the YouTube videos and news from the globe regarding new models of EVs launched by the manufacturers.
