How are they going to apply cc on ev ? Gov is greedy and sees a great reduction in revenue if this EV policy is designed in lines of civilized world.

Others are giving tax credits on ev vehicles.

This engine capacity and battery capacity tax is absolutely bonkers, like everything else in Pakistan. How difficult is it to just tax the vehicle based on its price?

Lets assume by some miracle EVs become common in Pakistan, the next step by government will be to impost hefty annual taxes on EVs to offset the big losses from oil sales. Tax on Petrol/Diesel sales is major source of revenue for government.

But Jamali sahab was trying to pass a point in his recent interview that even bumper die cost 6 Billion and the idea was that we are not bringing the new generation of Corolla and just enjoy another useless facelift/fakelift of the Corolla that too with an increase price in January. Will they invest in all new Hybrid assembly line ?

KIA NIRO hybrid cost as much as Sportage while the plugin Niro is expensive comparing Sportage in overseas market. If we apply the same formula for CKD, it would cost same or more than Sportage in Pakistan.

Personally , I think Lucky will not bring any model which can cannibalize their own product especially keeping in mind that Sportage is doing very well for them. I think with our market size Niro would not work unless it's cheaper than Sportage and that's not possible.

Nishat could not sell CBU Ioniq with 6.5 Million price tag something as people preferred Sportage. Also Sorento is coming with price range of 7.5 to 8. Niro could be a hard sell or could start eating sales of its sibling.

here's what I've gathered

Issues:

• Fuel cost which is more than gasoline vs EV's being cheaper to charge = Not enough people willing to jump in for infrastructure investment and not enough people willing to buy the car unless someone's subsidizing the fuel

• More safety concerns = added safety costs for anyone investing in mass distribution

Advantages

• Low time to fill up the tank vs EV's

• Systems less expensive compared to Li-ion batteries

Also, thanks to tesla speeding up the move to electrification in US and Europe a lot of EV infrastructure has popped up and more and more people are realizing the cost advantages of owning EV's. It's now more and more difficult to market fuel cell vehicles next to EV's when there's neither infrastructure nor are they cheap to run.

well US, Eu, China certainly do dictate automaker decisions to quite some extent and since these markets are now imposing restrictions and deadlines on ICE sales, the question of "whether to invest more in EV's or in FCV's?" has to be answered looking at them

For passenger cars in the rest of the world where "electricity" is still a luxury - they should just resort to horseback.

Speaking of demand, Many publications speak that "customers are wanting CUV and SUV" - but for some odd reason every auto manufacturer has an entry level basic sedan for sale. And they sell like ice cream on a hot day! - Please dont take such news pieces of ending ICE production at face value as they mostly are "filler" material.

If Toyota shuts down all ICE car production tommorow night globally - do you think other manufacturers will not take those ready sitting sales? Or you assume that every other manufacturer will not take customer money because "ICE buree cheez hai - hum ko nahi karna chahiye"

I remember when hybrid were relatively new in Pakistan some people were speculating how disastrous it would be because pakistani mechanics are trained monkeys and hybrid is some alien technology passed down from the Gods to martial race and blah blah.
I know many happy owners of Prius and many other hybrid cars owned for 7-10 years and driven 200k kms or more.
So same is a case with EVs people will moan and cry and say what ever eventually we will see many people buying and enjoying them.
End of the day its their money and choice.

Most are sitting as junk or people who had extra money to burn are supporting them from scrapped carcasses in Bilal gunj or shershah. Lol, with hybrids you had a car that had an ICE too, with EV, the ball game is completely unique, you cannot tote a can of electricity to it if it gets stalled in some backwoods chakk.

I just wonder why you bring up again and again your self made claim that ICE cars are going obsolete from tomorrow. Changes are gradual, it always takes a lot of years for new technologies to be adopted globally.

Again, I never said any automaker will happily phase out ICE. It is just that some governments are going to phase out ICE sales or make buying an ICE car a lot more expensive sooner or later and automakers are going to be forced to have alternatives for those markets by then

coool someone finally pointed fingers at PAMA, has always looked like a shady collusion umbrella to me. The writer correctly points out that all the members of this body increase prices more or less at the same time and are employing the same tactics wrt to the "own"

The writer points out kia lucky, I think the FAW guys are also not a member and have kept prices steady (sadly the products trash)
