In Pakistan the second small car (within city) for EV is very much promising, however people have reservations for cheap brand, a good quality brand within 1.6 to 2 million with long term fuel saving will definitely be a success. No Chinese, acidic or harmful battery cheap product should be allowed or else people will get misconception like happened with solar.

further Govt shall work on renewable sources of electricity (portion) to get the real benefit of these so called "green" vehicles.

Our govt is kinda dumb

keeps incentivizing end assembly without incentivizing supply chain, result is always local groups becoming licensees and selling crap because only thing you can target with such policies is the local market.

Indonesia meanwhile leveraged their resources, has signed up investment deals worth billions with supply chain players in the EV industry and by the time EV's become affordable for ASEAN market they'll be a manufacturing hub for both suppliers and assemblers.

Out government should define what a car should be at minimum. With engine output, size, construction material (details of alloy grade, thickness, percent of plastic etc), and features, and safety features. or import this definition from somewhere.

Then they should define an electric car, specially what materials can battery be made of and what safety standards they need to adhere to, including condition post crash, or under water, to be called an electric car. Or import this definition too.

Downgrade everything else to some category below car, and limit its maximum price. Limit its registration and its ability to be driven on certain roads. And require sellers to mention on all advertisements that this is not a car according to the criteria defined by the government.

I don't feel safe driving a plastic box with lead-acid battery, and I certainly don't want to pay 2 million for it.

Its a cheap electric car that can fulfill the purpose of day to day chores and has a good range too.

That can never happen as it requires brains and can severely cause turmoil in transport sector.

Imagine if govt has to define road vehicle laws where minimum pedestrian and passenger safety has to be mandated and then the road vehicles in discussion are a ricksha or a qingqi or a wooden cabin bus with cramped seating. Or a family of 4 on a 70cc motorcycle.

This is why it has been considered to “let sleeping dogs lie”

And to top the cake “kuch nahi hota - sab Allah ke bharosay” mentality is what stops all discussions, just like the oxygen cylinders that were used for cng by same Allah tawakkal concept, well to be honest Allah removed them from the gene pool.

why not start their state own company and not allow private sector (or public private partnership) to regulate well all standards. private companies will only bring "disposable chinese crap".

This shall result in mismanagement, low build quality, poor after sales service, promotion of 'own' culture, favoritism to influential people, and a host of other problems.

Role of government is to regulate through appropriate set of rules /regulations and ensuring their compliance.

This is why I suggested a category below "car", call it quadricycle etc. Then add restrictions like its maximum price, number of sales in a year, what roads it can and cannot use. Prevent people from importing golf carts with four plastic doors and lead acid batterys as electric cars and sell them for 2 million.

A lot of livelihood is connected to our transport system, so it should not be disturbed. Just push it in the right direction, just like it was done to mandate wearing seat belts in Lahore, or phasing out two stroke rickshaws. Let it take a few years, it will be a great improvement.

the 2 stroke ricksha was not phased out, there is no mandate stopping anyone from running a 2 stroke engine vehicle. It was just a case of them being expensive.

the piaggio ricksha was very expensive (but very reliable) as compared to the CNG monstrosities which were cheaper than a bag of popcorn.

But my concern is that why have a ricksha share the same road as a heavy truck like a land cruiser, is the ricksha passenger of lesser worth? why do we allow 4 people on a 70cc motorcycle - are they of lesser value? Dont worry about the golf carts with plastic doors etc, they will die out once the "hype" is over. Just like the stupid Alif cars that were made in Pakistan back in the day or the stupid proficient branded pickup or the adam branded cars which were hopeless in build quality.

The govt/forces/deep state personnel are only interested in penning laws that excludes their private businesses from taxation. They also are only in existance to channel money into the pockets of themselves.

Forget penning anything that is beneficial, it requires compassion. I can bet you the entire gold reserve of Fort Knox that you will not find one person in any seat in any Pk govt office that even can understand this concept.

I am waiting for my reservation fulfillment which is 6 to 8 months out at this time as I went for AWD. Let's see if I keep the final build or cancel it.

I am on ID4 forum and currently the VW ID4 is on introductory tour across the country at various dealership. These are NOT my pictures. I just shared it from another forum. When it arrives at my local dealer, I will definitely share more indepth pictures.

I have always been a VW fan and keeping VW's for almost 16 years now.

As for us, I dont think we’ll be getting anything similar any time soon. In fact i dont think we’ll be seeing any decent EVs (or even non-EVs) any time soon. With the current irrational policies, electrification is gonna remain a pipe-dream.

Countries that are offering subsidies on electric cars are struggling to get people to buy electric and we think that we’re offering some great incentive by charging more than 70% percent taxes on already expensive cars. We are destined to remain captive to vested interests. Keep waiting till the local saiths decide that they want to launch some outdated models at crazy prices. Maybe in 5 years right before the next auto policy is about to expire we’ll get some lollipop.

And frankly no one is to blame but consumers themselves. When even on a car forum, people are more economists than car enthusiasts then you know theres no hope. Anyone who likes cars in Pakistan and has hopes for the future is a fool and a sad human being. Best pick up some other hobby. Although most other hobbies are equally hopeless in this country. Best advice: leave if you can.
