Tbh even 48% seems like a low number.

We own a petrol station and the profits are tiny if you operate fairly(which we do). In fact most profit comes from things like ‘excess fuel’ they fill up at every tanker at the depot and by cutting down on transportation costs by using your own tankers.

This is the reason I tell people that on paper using High Octane in low compression engines would be waste of money but in Pakistan high octane probably is the RIGHT (better) fuel for your vehicle, at least now with introduction of Euro 5. Price difference is minimal.

I agree. Euro 5 makes a lot of sense.

My younger brother wrecked the engine on his new BMW a couple of years ago. You wouldn’t believe the amount the amount of deposits that were in there after just 15-20k. He swore not to buy another turbo engined car untill fuel situation changes. Also swore not to buy anything german (at least in pakistan) after the parts bill.

Sorry for your loss, even now there isnt much clarity on Euro 5 and how sustainable it would be as no local refinery would be able to produce it. However gov will be imposing heavy penalties if regulations are not complied with.

They make decisions without foresight, and adequate planning.

A great thread and indeed a need of time. I heard that current "honest" govt. has removed passenger vehicles (cars & SUV) from EV policy and new policy is only pertinent to buses and trucks, can someone confirm ?

Yes. the current EV policy recently announced is only for buses. 3 wheeler.. Passenger vehicles are not part of the policy.

So I called a very popular customs clearing agent to ask about duties and taxes on a brand new Model 3 Long Range.
He have me an estimate of 7.5- 8.8 million pkr just in duties and taxes alone.
I wonder whats going on.
How is Audi able to get the E-tron with a much less price difference?

More EVs at the port.
I am curious to talk to more custom clearing agents about the duty/ tax situation on EVs.

Can't wait.. its coming from Europe so, extended delivery times. Price will go down by 4 to 5000 when local assembly starts in Tennessee. The good thing you get an average of 10K in federal and state tax incentive which brings price down. Tesla already exhausted those tax incentives and the price is now much higher for a mid level equipped Model Y or Model 3 for that matter.

The Ford Mach E is also there but long wait time..
