As per KIA Global Design Chief Mr. Karim Habib, KIA’s new design philosophy and language is based on five key parameters ;
Bold for Nature
Joy for Reason
Power to Progress
Technology for Life
Tension and Serenity.
The first KIA EV is on dedicated electrified platform. The market trend is for crossovers , and EV6 for that matter has a crossover coupe styling. Extremely slopped windshield for reduced drag coefficient is seen as well as the sloped roof at C pillar.
On the inside , everything is new comparing current KIA lineup and we can say, have some design influence from the Hyundai's Genesis brand. The EV6 under the skin is actually exactly same as the recently revealed Hyundai Ioniq-5. Read here > https://www.facebook.com/groups/PakCars.Official/permalink/3662804940483729/.
Although EV6 and IONIQ-5 have the same DNA, both these vehicles are completely different visually inside and out. Kia EV6 is based on Hyundai’s E-GMP/ Electric-Global Modular Platform which is brands basis for all the upcoming EV’s including electric vehicles under Hyundai and KIA's portfolio.
Hyundai electrified models are lined up under " IONIQ " while KIA will market it as " EV " branding. The numbers with the branding will classify the model lineup. For now Ioniq5 and EV6 are available for sale.
EV6 mirror the battery and motor setup as found on IONIQ-5. Available in two battery sizes 58kWh or 77.4 kWh and single on rear or two motor set [ front and rear ]. Both battery packs are available with just the rear or the dual motor option.
The base model comes with the smaller 58kWh battery size and rear motor of 167hp and 350NM of torque has an estimated range of around 373 kilometers.
The 77.4kWh battery variant generates 225HP & 350NM of torque for RWD while the AWD makes 320HP & 605NM of torque for the GT-Line. With 77.4kWh battery size, the RWD gives approx. 500 kilometers while 440 kilometers with AWD.
A more potent AWD variant with 577HPand 740NM is also available for the GT version. The battery packs are capable of 400V AND 800V fast charging. Using a 350kWh DC fast charger can charge 10 to 80% in just 18 minutes.
On the interior, the EV6 comes with dual 12.3-inch displays, each for instrument panels and infotainment system with smart phone integration. Augmented reality heads-up display is also available as well as 14-Speaker Meridian Premium Audio. EV6 also comes standard with KIA active driving assistive technologies.
EV6 will go for sale in US, Europe and Korea as of now. EV6 will be assembled exclusively at South Korean assembly plant for local market as well as export. EV6 in US start near $41K for base RWD model while the GT-Line is approx. $51K. the full blown GT is not yet available in US but it is expected to start above $60K. The US pricing is before EV tax credit which is around approximately $10K on average ( Federal + State EV credit).
