March 03, 2007
Did you know that in our neighboring Pakistan,
Bollywood movies and Bollywood movie stars are the rage

Big B's Photo on a Pakistani Billboard
Indian cable TV and soaps are very popular there. It means that most Pakistanis have seen advertisements of our products and therefore aware of the kind of bikes we ride in India.
But how many Indians are aware of the kind of two wheelers available in Pakistan??
I can safely guess that not many Indians know what our neighbors ride. This post will give you a brief picture of the two wheelers available in Pakistan.
The Pakistani Motorcycle industry is at least 20 years behind what is being offered here in India. Two wheeler is virtually a cottage industry in Pakistan with a large number of local small manufacturers present there. A few of those notable names are: Ghani, Sohrab, Excel, Hero, Adam.
There are also three Japanese biggies; Honda (Atlas Honda Limited), Yamaha (Dawood Yamaha Limited) and Suzuki (Suzuki Motorcycle Pakistan Limited )
The Chinese are also present there with their stuff. They entered Pakistan around the early 2000's
Categories of Motorcycles sold in Pakistan
*
70 C.C (Honda CD 70 and its many local and Chinese clones)
*
100 C.C (Honda CD 100, Yamaha Junoon, Suzuki Sprinter)
*
125 C.C (Honda CG 125, Suzuki GS125)
*
150 C.C (Suzuki GS 150)
The 70 C.C segment is by far the most popular in Pakistan. This segment is dominated by the Honda CD70 (belongs to the same family of 100 C.C Hero Honda engines in India). The Suzuki GS 150 is the only 150 C.C model available.
Honda CD70
Honda CD100

Suzuki Sprinter
Before the Chinese entered the market, the Japanese bikes were priced ridiculously high. The Honda CD70 used to have a price tag of Rs. 58,000 (Pakistani Currency) which is equivalent to around Rs.42,000 (Indian Currency). The price of the Honda CD70 now has been reduced to Rs.54,000 (Pakistani Currency).
Price List:
Japanese Bikes:
*
Yamaha Junoon (100 C.C): Rs. 63,042 (Pakistani currency)
*
Honda CD-70 (70 C.C): Rs. 54,000 (Pakistani currency)
*
Honda CG 125 (125 C.C): Rs. 76,900 (Pakistani currency)
The Chinese 70 C.C's cost around Rs. 42,000-44,000 (Pakistani currency)
The Local 70 C.C's cost around Rs. 37,000-41,000 (Pakistani currency.)

Thats the problem in Pakistan we have an array of useless bikes unlike what you get in india. why can't Pakistan govt allow imports of these bikes... i would right away import an Apache... its because there's no/little competition to the Pak bike industry we r in such shit. I truly hope we can splash india in this segment within the next decade... but for now i just have to congratulate the indian bike makers. Haji Farouk, Multan

intresting info about pakistan bike industry. pakistan needs to open up their minds and industry. they continue to fool themselfs that china is not a threat to their economy. till the time they learn their lessons, india should only wish goodluck to their wisdom. however, when pakistan is ready indian manufacturers should establish bike industry there.
good report Satadal.
