hello boys,
lately been having a blast with a few days off work. being officially retired from Car audio lol now i look into photography. Lately have been bitten by the D800 Vs 5D mark III insect and couldn't really decide which ones better then the other. i already have the Nikon D3s and the D800 with a whole lot of Lens. but i was willing to give away all my gear if the mark III was a better camera. After a few hunting, i managed to find a good 5D MARK III along with 24-105 F4 L lens and i went straight into the testing.
BODY:
I have to admit , i have a thing for canon bodies. the lens and the bodies make me feel more comfortable and modern. the moment i held the 5d mark III, i knew it was something which i wanted. in face for a while i was cursing myself for investing in nikon gear and wanted to shift back to Canon
BUTTON/INTERFACE:
i like the click on the nikon. they are hard and felt firm when clicked. i also notice that on the nikon, there are buttons for everything. on the canon, you still have to go into menus or the screen info to change a few things. for example, if you want to change the AF system, then you have to press the extreme right button, then the FN.MN button and select the AF system from the screen. Whereas on the nikon, you can just press the side button on the left of the lens mount and turn the dial to select the AF system or points.
this is one reason why i got the D800 over the D600. but never noticed it on the canon until i brought the 5d mark III.

TESTING
i took RAW from both the cameras and developed in on Lightroom. the settings were same for both.
this is just a normal mans testing. not something scientific. i kept the same shutter speed on both and the same F stop (4). while i put the ISO on auto. i saw that all the nikon evaluations are higher. for example if canon selects iso 6000 for a particular pic, then the nikon selects iso 7800. therefore in theory , the nikon should have more noise in their pic because its on a higher ISO. lets see.....
CANON 5D MARK III iso 4000 , 70mm , f4 , 1/60 sec

NIKON D800 SAME SETTINGS BUT ISO 4500

Now a closer look at both

Canon ISO 5000 , f4 , 35mm , 1/60 sec

nIKON SAME WITH ISO 7184

have a closer look

Conclusion.
i think both the cameras are neck to neck. the canon feels great in the hands with its more curvy and modern look and the L lens... but the nikon has much more shortcuts and buttons for serious photographers.
the noise on both the cameras are somewhat the same but only the nikon has a much higher resolution and the details it captures is amazing. look at my jacket and bag spots.
i did no include my Nikon d3s shots. but just for fun , see the difference.

lol the d800 is not even CLOSE!!! the d800 is at 12800 and the d3s is at 16000. yes u heard it right 16000!!!! but then again, the d800 completely destroys my d3s at low iso.
