Rang Roghan Ka Programme
One of the last things that was left undecided on the rig was the colour. During a lengthy discussion with Yasir (Phantom007), he very correctly pointed out that the colour of the ride and its external appearance is the first thing to strike you about it. Other facets, like what's under the hood, the axles, gears, suspension, and interior...ALL follow later.
This has been one aspect where I've undergone a LOT of introspection. The choices have been erratic and eclectic: Garnier Fructis Green, Bumblebee Yellow, Glacial White, Matte Black, Dune Beige, Nordic Green...you name it. I think we've run the entire spectrum of the rainbow in discussions. One colour which never came up for discussion, though...
Come to think of it, I haven't seen very many Pumpkin Orange coloured off-roaders here, in Pakistan, at all. Which is why, the Phantom BEGS to be...Orange.
As a matter of fact, Pumpkin Orange is a STOCK FJ40 colour, which appeared on some late 60s model Cruisers in the US...although I don't believe I've seen any of them here. Somewhere along the line, the colour faded from popularity and was phased out by Toyota, only to be replaced by Mustard, Yellow, and various shades of Beige. And besides...as readers of my thread about the 65 Impala might recall; I've ALWAYS wanted a candy orange ride.
To my mind, the proposed colours of the Phantom will follow the baselines, as under:-
a) Matte black frame.
b) Matte black under-body.
c) Black bumpers.
d) Black fender flares, sidesteps and (possibly) front mudguards.
e) Black insides to the pickup tub.
f) Black kick vents, snorkel, filler cap, exhaust.
g) Black "Phantom" plate to the rear wheel cover, with white lettering on the black.
h) Black bezel.
j) Black jerry can.
k) Black dashboard.
l) Black engine bay.
m) The rest of the body and interior will be Pumpkin Orange, as will be the spare wheel mount (less the top plate at "g" above)
n) The fiberglass roof will be white (matching the lettering on the spare wheel mount)
o) Chrome accents for: the custom radiator grille, the heat shield of the exhaust, and the rims of course.
p) The seats - front and back - will be upholstered in black and orange leatherite...which is not only nice and waterproof, but is sturdy as well. Matching designs, on the inner walls of the four doors. Possibly embellished with the "Phantom" lettering
Now...picture all of THAT...on THIS...
