The Rule of Calling REPOST on PW

I think we need to have a bit of a discussion and ultimately a consensus on this topic. there is no set policy on calling a thread as a REPOST here on Pakwheels...everybody wants to jump on it thinking they will win a prize or something by calling the Repost first.

In some cases, a trigger happy mod closes the post right away by just saying..its a REPOST.....it may be a repost but it was posted several months or maybe a year ago...which practically makes it a new post.

In my opinion....here should be the policy (keeping in mind the fact that the posts move so fast on a busy board like Pakwheels)

"If a post does not appear on the first page (a single page can cover several days worth of posts) within a single category, it should not be considered as a repost but not otherwise'

to have an intelligent discussion is the key to resolving issues and avoiding conflicts...so many people simply waste so much of their own time...mods included...in explaining what is the right and what is wrong....

partly..the reason is 'clear description and sense of the rules' so that is exactly why i posted this....in order to have a discussion and improve PW site as a whole.

@szuberi bhai, in the begining i was curious that why is this repost thing very common in mods, but then i gave up.

i dont know what is the rule to say it is a repost.

i think we need a bit of change in the rules of this site and also the interface of this forum and also the options.

but i know this thread will turn out to be useless.

It was decided that a post especially copy/paste again from web that is already on PW should be acknowledged as repost so anyone who joins website later should go ahead read or search on his own wish, otherwise the rest of members keep rotating on same idea who have been there earlier, if url is found it is posted, if not then nobody bothers to do it.

it was seen a member posting a video or pic then some days later similar pic or video on a fresh post.

well on other hand there is lot to read once you scroll back some months or year/s,, then you already get to know what already exists on site and has been acknowlwdged already by members earlier.

A repost might be useless for a member who's been here for 2 years, but for a new member a repost is not a repost. For someone who's been on this site for a while, the posts are perfectly fine.

Sadly the repost chant's been abused by grumpy oldtimers who dont like seeing new kids ruin their glorious past. Psh...you old geezers.

I think a search option is one of the greatest tool invented. And by not using it is an insult to technology. So I if its there use it, or the whole website will be called a Repost.

Thinking about search, Rather then using google search why don't ppl creat a new site everytime they have a question, something to think about and for exactly the same reasons use the search on PWs too

you cant be serious...do you really believe people have time or sense to go back and search threads that are months or year or more older? who does that? do you?

when u say 'it was decided'....so who decided it? was it posted in the rules section or no? i dont see it atleast..maybe i missed it.

Most REPOST whiners dance around the photos that are posted and since THERE IS NO MEDIA SECTION ON PAKWHEELS....so people post pictures and videos all over the place.

If you remember...i recommended this sometime back that we should have a media section where the only posts allowed should be the ones that contain photos or videos...hence the name media section. Once you do that...you really limit people posting in the wrong section. Its fool proof and you cant wrong.

PW Search option is a very basic one...it doesnt tell you the results by way of section category...it just gives you a list of titles matching what you entered which can be long and tiring for someone who doesnt know the sections around over here.....specially when people post in the wrong sections all the time......

You didnt get my point.....the point was....if i post a vdo for example in the wheels section....that was posted lets say four months ago...lets say 20 people saw it....then the post got old....now i post it without knowing it was posted again...and again i have replies from 15-20 people that it is great..this and that....so this proves that not many people saw it in the first place...

the vdo doesnt appear TWICE on the first page of the videos section......

szuberi:,, if no one reads that fine,, i have made searches in past, and found interesting replies,, normally people wont repeat some stuff again, it gets boring,, and interestingly a lot of topics started by members wernt named right to search......so its not really searcher's fault either, but person making post, now how are we going to pinpoint to a member that his post heading isnt right,,, here people do their own thing.lol

haha..nevermind...i agree but did you notice my point or no? if you have a media section....you will contain people in it....people who are posting material that is already posted before..

if you look at it...90-95% of REPOST calls are for photos and pictures only.

and you know what you remind me of time i came to Pakistan, found a job saw people doing things the most weird way sometimes,, i thought i could explain ways, but i found that here no one listens and only argues, so since then i did things my way as long as i got my pay i was happy:)
