Only one suggestion.....There should be a REPOSTS section on the forums...., all the reposted threads will go there after been captured!

The thread already got about 20 replies before a mod called it a REPOST! the dialogue was

i posted all details and pix of da fj cruiser a year ago!!!!!!!!and ur postin now plz chek old threads before postin!!!!!!!!

so something which was new for everyone else, and that the mod posted that stuff a year ago!! was called a REPOST and hence blocked... what abou those who saw it for the first time???

what i understood from this "repost" myth is that repetition of stuff occupies lots of space allocated to this site/BW. so it should be done but URL must be attached therewith.

btw, i came across a post and further replies were blocked only coz the pic was not explained, all i could do was to write to mods/admins and told them the meaning of that post that was missed by the poster and that poster was pretty new to this site. i think rules must be favouring posters otherwise ppl like me would stop posting whatever little knowledge they have.

also i'd like to appreciate/commend ur efforts @szuberi u put in recent days for the improvement of this site but some time back we confronted with something similar regarding subject/purpose of someone else' post. so the point is that thing should also be addressed otherwise search engines are of no use as we ve experienced so far.

isnt it amazing that we usually agree on so many things but no action is taken....so far...we agree on the following:

"IF A MEMBER OR A MODERATOR THINKS IT IS A REPOST, THEY SHOULD PROVIDE A URL BEFORE CALLING IT A REPOST"

Once it is confirmed that it is a repost..the topic can be closed and those who want to have the discussion...can go to the original post.

IMPORTANT:

The next step is here is to decide HOW OLD should that original post be to call the new one as a REPOST? Personally, i say if it is older than 6 MONTHS...it should NOT be called a repost.

I call on the Mods/Admins to look into this and decided as soon as possible so that we can move forward.

when the link would be provided to the original post(no matter how old it is), people can make that thread alive again no matter how old it is.

I am with Hash on this one.....A Repost is a repost no matter if its an old one or a recent one.

ok..so basically you are saying that regardless of the time involved...it will be called as a repost (which is alright) and the new topic will be closed?

although it wouldve been nice if the timing difference was considered but i dont see much harm as long as you provide a link and the discussion can continue in the old post...it sounds good to me.

Having said that...i suggest why dont you guys clarify this in the 'rules and regulaations' section so it makes your life easy as a mod not to explain everyone everytime.

I have two questions.

1. Who takes the decisions on new rules? / rules amendments. mods or admin.

2. After we discuss here. What will be the outcome?

        a) mods/admin will understand concerns of the users seriously in a positive way.
        b) mods/admin will include people discussing here in there watch list.

@szuberi very much agree with u....but regarding wht to do with calling repost thing i would rather suggest that if u or i think that a topic under discussion is a repost then either ignore it, cause let the other members read it and stay in touch with it or if u wish to say repost thing then better also provide the link of the repost topic with it. cause in this way the member who started the topic will get to know wht they want, cause when a repost takes place then no one posts replies and hence the result is that the member gets annoyed ( u know garam khoon ) so this is wht i think @szuberi and others so wht do u guys say????????

The forum i m moderating having 80,000 + users

we also use merging rather than creating a non-related or calling it a repost

I have seen few days back one of PW moderator posting a topic of Dangerious road, which was I think posted by 5 other times too

But after a day when he got informed by fellow moderators that its a repost he himself deleted that topic rather than closing it?

So merging would be the best option right !!!!!!! And by the way why is our izzat always at stake?? I mean this is no baizzati kay u point out something without knowing someone also thought of that before....... just a coincidence.....
