I've always had a bit of an obsession with exhausts.
I simply love the rumble of a V8...and quite possibly NOTHING comes close to it, in automotive terms. The Sleipnir is certainly going to be no different.
There was quite a challenge in deciding on exhaust design. Straight pipes leading out sideways from the exhaust manifold would've sounded unnecessarily loud, and unrefined. Plus, they might've been somewhat dangerous too, because of the flames / sparks / expelled exhaust gases they would've spewed outwards, straight from the manifold. NOT catering for side-pipes would've been an injustice to classic hot rod looks. So...we came to the conclusion that side-pipes would look better (aesthetically) and rear-heading pipes would sound and perform better.
Which is why we're catering for both.
Conceptually, it sounds easy enough. MOST of the exhaust gases will be routed rearwards through 2.5 inch pipes...passed through massive mufflers and will exit through rear-facing tips for a more refined sound. But just to remind this beast that it IS a homegrown hot-rod, some exhaust gases will also be routed through the 1.5 inch stainless steel side-pipes that will stick out (more or less straight) from the exhaust manifold, just to give it that raw, unbridled edge of sorts. The sound SHOULD be incredible...and hopefully, performance will be, too. Of course, this is a completely madcap experiment. We may actually have to not route any gases sideways, and use the side-pipes for ornamental purpose only. Regardless, it's certainly going to be a very interesting couple of days of fabrication.
Just to show what sort of side-pipes I'm actually talking about...pictures!
