A carb comes out nice even if it is blasted with a soft media. I am leaving for Canada in a few days or I would have asked you to send it to me and would have returned it to you when done.

The main body of the carb is aluminium so even sanding makes it look good, I tried the same on a vacuum pod and achieved a mirror finish but it started rusting even when stored indoors. No worries, I will find a local place, if it is safe and economically feasible maybe do it at home

this was very helpful, i like the engine bay to be very clean and the pores in the metal tend to suck dirt, i will also clear coat my engine's parts, i will try golden or silver spray paint on the vacuum pods, that should be close enough

As long as the towed car is rolling freely it does not offer too much strain except on steep uphills. The towed car does not have brakes so the tractor brakes come under strain when stopping. Other than that it is a very do-able set-up.

The project is on hold as i was away in Canada. I returned on the 18th but there were containers blocking every road and getting the car out to the workshop was out of question. Then came the rains.....

Time for an update. The car is back in Pindi where Zaheer Sahib installed the headliner and Arshad sahib started fitting all new hardware. The car is taking shape but this, like the other stages requires attention to detail so I am not rushing it. It might take a couple of weeks for every tiny bit to be in place, every seal aligned and trim edges laid flush but the wait is going to be worth it. Here are a couple of pictures..more as soon as I have available.

Striker plate looks to be new, how about the locks, are they also new?

Yes..I have tried to source everything, wherever possible, new and original. lots of NOS parts going into this project. The locks are New Old Stock German. there is something about the solid click and thunk of a VW door closing and that would be achieved by installing these goodies

Billo has NOS lock mechanisms so the right door does lock from inside. At some point I am going to replace the linkage and the door lock remote on the left side so it too can be locked from the inside when driving. I did feel the need for both doors to be locked when driving in parts of Washington DC.

I thought Billo is presently in Pakistan. You can do that, u have to replace Billo's left door lock mechanism with that of a RHD door lock mechanism of a left door.

A whole bunch of goodies arrived from the US last week. Among them, the heaviest and bulkiest are the window regulators. For the life of the car, the windows can now be rolled up and down with ease.

Lovely. Any idea on the origin of the window regulators. Few members here bought window regulators, that were totally rubbish, not worth any penny they paid for. These regulators are robust, if German, will give service say for another 10-15 yrs with proper maintenance.
