Has anyone ever had the timing chain replaced on local Wagon R and what symptoms did you face before replacing it? My mechanic has recommended to replace it due to high mileage as it is well over the 100k km that service manual states.
dont mess with it unless there is any issue or noise in it wagon r engine is very solid
I agree, won't be changing it without any symptoms but I do hear this loud metal on metal noise in the cold mornings. Not sure if a worn out chain can make that noise
you can inspect the chain by removing the tappet cover of the engine, but I doubt that the chain will be bad at 100K kms unless you were filling the engine with 20W50 oil.
wagon r engine is dead silent when at optium temperature if there is any noise it will be visible
which oil grade ur using?
rubber belts need replacement at 100,000 kms...
timing chains for the most part last as long as the engine...
Using 5w30 hx7 along with liquimoly ceratec additive after 2- 3 oil changes
I agree about the the lifetime of the timing chain but owners manual states 100k km for the timing chain service interval. Not sure why, maybe to stay on safe side or just an unnecessary expense to fill the dealership pockets. It's just a loud tapping noise on cold start during cold whether that is confusing me. The engine is dead silent when at optimum temperature.
Not getting the time to do that but I think inspecting the chain visually would be a good idea. I can see part of the chain from the oil filler hole though and from there it seems just fine. It could be a failing timing chain tensioner ? I believe the tensioner works with oil pressure right? Maybe on cold start at cold whether the tensioner is not having enough pressure? This is all speculation but I just want to understand all possible root cause before getting my hands dirty
WagonR timing chain is like life time..this is not like old school rubber type of timing belt..yes timing belt is changed after 90-100k..but not chains
