Had a dream of owning a Totota J40 series... finally got a BJ40R-KC

Body - all rusted junk

I plan to build a BJ44 mid-wheel base hard top. Extending the chasis and body by around 14 inch to make a bit more space that is always required on trips.

All mechanical to remain stock. However im seriously considering of putting up a prado dashboard like in Salman's ride as i need a AC.. and the underdash dabba for BJ40 is too small to cool a MWB.

The cost of completing a stock BJ40 dash is also huge with every tiny miny button costing in $$$ A prado dash unit will ensure that i have AC/heater running properly and it cost may be less in long run. The drawback of prado dash could be the noises that could come up with offroad use coz of the altered fitting.. Salman to comment plz based on his experience

Right now I am waiting for my Bank Account to recover from the shock of purchasing the BJ40 As soon as it recovers InshAllah I'll start the restoration.. Please pray for its fast recovery

Based on my experience (which shouldn’t be counted as word of wisdom by any means) instead of spending money on old B2 motor, As Shani606 and voyager have suggested earlier, 13BT with complete gear box (5 forward) will serve you years to come.
When I restored my 82' FJ40, I spend enormous amount of money, time (and aggravation) on 2F motor, which is 25 years old and a lot has changed since then. I still regret why I didn’t do that. Well it occurred progressively which can’t be un-done at this point. At this point if I change and go that route, the economy of the project won’t make sense. So my suggestion would be if you are going to change motor along with gear box, do it before you spend even a dime on your existing motor.
(By the way I did restore original 82 FJ40 dash).

The B2 motor is still strong.. the vehicle is in running condition.. so no imediate swap required.. its having a 4-spd gearbox which is Okay as I usually dont touch 100KM/h on a Jeep a 5-spd will cost me 40K at the moment that i dont want to spend A mechnical winch is on the wishlist subject to availability of a reasonble priced PTO setup.

A lot needs to be done on body and interior... how much did u spend to restore the orignal dash? heater? AC? considering the cost involved im considering putting up a prado one.

Putting a prado dash board with all functions working will be more expansive then restoring the original one. Besides it will save the 40 from Molestion which it already has to undergo in form of a 14 inch stretch.

Paa Jee.. prado dash complet with AC/heater ducting etc costs 20K... the original dash.. speedo 8K.. button panel 8K, heater box 7K, AC box another 8K.. hisaab la lo fir tussi... aye 74 aala system hai

Akif attaching restored FJ40 dash pictures. I literally hunt down every possible switch available in the market during that process (I used to send my driver to peshawar for these while I was posted in Washington, DC).

Congrats brother.
I welcome u with open arms to the tlc club.
When i got my bj done the complete dash plus vents costed me 25 grand and 15 grand on top for the condenser, compressor and fitting.
To fit the dash u need to modify the doors a bit, here u have to keep in mind if u going for a soft top and half door its easy but if u going for a hard top u need to get ur hands on a pair of fj full door with quarter glass. As those door are the only ones which can take the modification you need. Will send u to the guys who did mine,at that time there was not a single tlc with a prado dash and most denters refused to do it but these guys did an awesome job with mine. After 4 years of beating the dash is still solid with no issues wat so ever. So best of luck mate and let me know if u need any help.
