I am not an expert so please do wait for experienced members response.
I would say ranging around 150 to 180 psi would mean engine is in good health. Also when checking all 4 cylinders should have similar or close values. I think if you place a little oil in the cylinder and compression increases that means you need new rings.

All these brands selling genuine 5w30 and 0w20 fully synthetic are good, equally good.

Get the cheapest among these. Make sure buying from authentic source.

It's an excellent oil. 1 Lac is not such high milage for modern engines. It would be good if you know which oil previously being used.
To be on safe side, you can first use Semi-Synthetic 5w-30 (Shell HX7 is quite good semi-synth oil) and observe your car performance and keep an eye on oil level and milage, if you are satisfied you can keep using semi-Synthetic otherwise after two oils you can switch to fully synthetic 5w30, Total Quartz 9000 is a great choice.

Yes. I think API SN semi-synthetic or mineral oil in 10w-30 or 10w-40 engine oil grade would be fine, provided engine health is excellent.

The member does not know which oil has been poured in the past, and how long? So better to play safe and conservative.

Considering your situation and details which you have mentioned, I would suggest to go for Caltex / Havoline 10w-30.

Just ensure that oil is 100% genuine and original!

I was using 5w30 total in civic 2004 exi prosmatec. It had engine and transmission leakage.

The API SF is obsolete since long ( https://www.api.org/products-and-services/engine-oil/eolcs-categories-and-classifications/oil-categories#tab-gasoline ) Get rid of it ASAP, and avoid using it.

Will it be wise to find the same viscosity oil 20W50 but in a better grade? Like API SN?

YES. I think no harm in using API SN, and keeping the engine oil grade same, i.e. 20w-50.

If API SN is not availble in 20w-50, you may look for API SM, SL, or at max, SJ.

Do not go below SJ.

I would sincerely suggest to avoid 0w-40 and 5w-40 fully synthetics in your car.

Thats the issue. The previous owner didn't know jacksh*t about what oil was in the engine because his driver had it changed. Par jaisay hee I got the car, I opted for Total 5W30, par at that time, I had leakages in the engine and transmission, so I couldn't see if the car was consuming the oil, was it leaking it.

If there's no harm in keeping the same grade, or 10W40 at best, I'll try to find Valvoline/Caltex/Havoline or any good reputable engine oil but in API SN or API SM at worst

Plus, as for fully synthetic oil, I feel it isn't right for my engine. Previous owner didn't have this car maintained at all. Nikal di saying 'jaisa chal raha hai chalne dou'. My best guess is that he was using a cheap 10W40 oil.

Well... 02 things can be there:

1. If your car already had leakages, then fully synthetic 5w-30 by Total is not the culprit. Worn out seals are.

2. If the problem started after switching to fully synthetic 5w-30 by Total, then I think, oil is the culprit.

I am not sure, but I am of the opinion that previously, semi synthetic or mineral engine oil, and comparatively thick (like 10w-xx, 15w-xx or 20w-xx) had been in use, and engine was very well settled and balanced on it.

When you switched to fully synthetic 5w-30 by Total, being quite thin, and fully synthetic, it exposed the seals and they started leaking.

Fully synthetic engine oils have very strong, detergent properties, and if poured in those engines, which have been driven on comparatively thick engine oils, and semi synthetic or mineral engine oil, then seals leakages may start after some time.

May be, the leakages go away from the engine by itself, after driving 10-15,000 Kms, or 02-03 oil changes, may be not. In that case, you may have to replace the relevant seals.

5w-30 by Total is one of the excellent oils, and not bad at all, however, it may not suit some engines (like old engines,which have been driven many lac Kms on thick oils, semi-synthetic / mineral oils, etc.).
