Toyota 2C engine oil confusion

I am browsing this forum's pages since last few days, especially related to Toyota Corolla 2.0D, because I might buy one in the near future. Now let's come to the topic of concern for me. I am a bit confused related to Toyota 2C engine oil recommendation that I discovered on the PakWheels forum pages. Most people recommend Caltex Delo Gold Ultra; ZIC 5000; and some people suggest putting any good diesel engine oil with API CI-4 rating.

While checking the 2C's repair manual, I got to know that the recommended API rating for 2C engine is CF (CE and CD can also be used). Next, I checked various well-known engine oils that are famous especially for petrol engines, for example, Mobil 1 5W-50 Peak Life and OW-40 New Life, Shell Helix Ultra 5W-40, ZIC XQ 5W-40 and so on and so forth, they all have API rating of SN/CF or SM/CF.

The "oil guide utility" or "oil selector utility" that is available on many oil manufacturers' websites (Mobil, Eurol, etc.) and they primarily used for choosing right engine oil for any particular car. The user provides the make, model, year and engine type to the utility and the utility, in response, recommends a particular oil based on the car manufacturer's recommendation. In European countries, 2C engine came in Toyota Carina E and perhaps in Toyota Avensis during 1990s. The oil guide utilities from different oil vendors recommend ONLY API CF oil for 2C engines. In these countries, 2C engines easily last for about 500,000 KMs and more without any major overhaul. And if you visit any automobile store, they don't recommend any CI-4 oil for 2C engines.

So, here comes my question. Has any owner of Corolla 2.0D tried putting such engine oils with API SN/CF rating that are popular for petrol engines like Shell Helix Ultra 5W-40 fully synthetic, Mobil 1 5W-50, ZIC XQ or any other fully synthetic oil with API SN/CF rating? Why Pakistani 2.0D needs overhaul most of the time. One reason I know is our "Ustaads". Any other valid reasons for overhaul(s)? Why we put CI-4 oil?? Is this backward compatible? If yes, why so many problems with our 2.0Ds?

I have corolla 2C from last 8 years n using delo gold 15w40 from a long long time as it is also recommended by @xulfiqar.

Coming to point why 2Cs here need overhaul is mainly due to over relying on ustaads and ustaads relying on their experience n everyone ignoring what the manufacturer says.

We omit few basic things such as choke CSD and timing the engine with dial gauge due to which our mentality is that diesel engines r not reliable and creates problems such as high consumption, black smoke, loud noise, cold start issue, loss of power, oil reduction etc

Btw can u kindly e mail me the repair manual of 2C ?

Yes, it's compressed file. You need to use some unzip utility, e.g. 7zip, winrar, etc.

I have tried that with no adverse effects whatsoever in 3C-TE where recommendation is CF and i used Total Quartz 5000 10W-40 with 5000km change interval. But i experiment a lot and people made be skeptical again so now using Mobil Delvac MX 15W-40 CI-4.

Our Ustaads advise every innocent man to get their 2Cs overhaul, coz they need money by any means and poor customer has no other choice due to his limited knowledge about diesels. Secondly, people listen to rumours spread by people who never owned diesel vehicles in their whole life, but always want to talk about bads of diesel engines becoz they heard them from one who again never owned a diesel vehicle. As far as I have seen diesel engine problems are highlighted much than actual. Im telling this whole story bcoz in the past I owned a 10 years old 2.0D Indus Corolla for 5 years and I claim that it was the best vehicle I ever owned and never gave me trouble in five years. Routine maintenance done for five years like Engine oil Delo Gold + filter, genuine Air filter, Best quality Fuel filter and Toyota Coolant (pink color) were only changed @ proper time. No doubt that Diesel is expensive than Petrol, still per km cost of diesel vehicle is lesser than that of petrol.

Just because anyone is holding a spanner and a pliers means that they actually know what they are doing. Get in touch with the manufacturer (meaning read their repair manual).

That manual will tell you in simplest form what is "NORMAL" and what is not, That book will also tell you "HOW" to get back to "NORMAL" e.g. lets take 2 diesel engines, one from an ancient 1975 200D benz and one from a corolla, both are 4 cyl and 2000cc - should one assume that both are repaired the exact same way?

btw manual says that its for 2CT engine, same will work for 2C ?? difference is the turbo part only ?
