Toyota 3S better or 3Y

Hello, i didnt find any better place to ask this. Is Toyota 3S engine more reliable,economical and tough or toyota 3Y engine..both are 2000CC petrol and both have a EFI version which is obviously better.
I need to alter either 3S or 3Y in my 2003 KIA SPORTAGE and after alot of research i have ended up on these two petrol engines

As far as Wikipedia guides me the 3S series engines are better suited for cars. The 3Y engines are primarily for commercial vehicles. You can read about both engines in the links I have pasted below.

Thank you soo much for your reply Sir, your links were quite usefull but my concern was this that kia sportage being a SUV class vehicle carries alot of extra weight, and from the links you have provided it became evident that Toyota 3Y is more "tough" and hard to kill than Toyota 3S "speed machine" series.

Please guide me further, as i really need a "tough" and more "reliable" engine from these two, as iam usually into Off roading and hard raving.

• i plan to switch to 3S-GTE if that is more "reliable" and "tough"

I'm sorry, I misread your post and thought you had Kia Spectra. For Sportage 3Y should be more suitable.

3S is far better designed and perfect for mid suv and is also used in commercial vehicles like townace pick ups and getting parts is not a issue at all. i have used 3Y-E in my 4 runner but its a gutless engine .

I get that Mr joinami, can you please provide your feedback on the Turbo version of the 3S... i know about 3S-E EFI version is just soo great..but can you please tell me about the turbo version? Is it as tough and reliable as 3S-E

3y is way to big to fit in a small suv like sportage

3s engine is very good working in kia Sportage i also installed 3s engine in my Sportage 2002 .it is power full and economical .
