When you drive in salt range you DO NOT need S or B unless its raining heavy and road is slippery then you should engage B. B is for brake mode. You will feel engine holding back your gear ratio to produce more power in uphill and downhill terrane. While S is for sports mode it delays the gear changing ratio hence resulting in more pick up in each gear.

An ideal place where you should use B is if you are going to Shogran ..... even the track to Pir Suhawa is not hard for normal D drive.

Best way is to experience it by yourself, try switching between D S and B but not on very high speed. You will feel the difference.

I engage B in mud, sand, very rough terrane and my belta (1300) crawls easily with a gentle touch of acceleration.

no need for brake dude its all forward counter gears ....

You need to press brake pedal while:

Disengaging P
Engaging P
Shifting to R (better to press pedal to avoid damage to tranny)

Please don't push it so hard on Shugran or Pir Suhawa. This is a very gentle, delicate and beautiful machine and I don't wish to put this beauty in trouble, hmmmmmm I love this beauty. On my lovely Mehran, I have traveled to many many high cold places like Naran, Kagha, Shugran, Pir Sohawa, Pir Chanasi, Kala Bagh, even drove on ice and drove to many many low hot places like Thal, Bahawalpur, traveled non stop from Karachi to Lahore in 17 hours and I have traveled in all these areas with my family and full load but never ever worried about wear and tear. Mehran really has been a little wonder to me but this Belta and its smooth driving has made me a very calm driver and m in love with it now.

I agree to some extent with you brother. When you car is soundless, clean, lishking with recent polish you feel extra care for your machine. These CVT transmission are widely used now and perform brilliantly. Mostly we abuse mehrans cuz we think they are cheap built and low-maintenance vehicles ..... but a car is a car ..... your driving attitude should be same no matter you driving a mehran / alto or exotic cars. About heavy or light foot I will not debate as I myself has a heavy foot when it comes to driving. All I think is if you know your car and you are the one who is maintaining it then one should test the car near to limits or as per "liver-size" ofcourse considering the safety of yourself and others.

After all ............ its a toyota ....... you need special gutts to kill a toyota.

Yesterday when I took my car out of office parking, I noticed a krrich krrich sound from my left side and as I speed up the sound was vanished but as soon as I slowed it down it again started making this annoying sound. I was really worried and I rushed to Toyota service station but I was lucky that it was closed till that time. So I went to nearest local mechanic and he just saw my car and shouted "Chotay 19 ka pana lana aur tire k nuts check karo". To my amazement nuts of left rear wheel were quite loosen. Then I recalled that last sunday I took my car to Toyota service station for brake adjustment and those experts didn't even tightened the wheel nuts

Moral of the story: Whenever you get tire repair or brake repair or have the wheel off the car then after repair must must check the nuts by yourself or enjoy the Krrich Krrich sound

@kazim104, Yes I only used "D" while coming from Lahore to ISB, the D,S, and B are very beatifully explained by @unware.

To be honest, how often do we check our tyre pressures, wheel nuts, and windshield washer bottle?? I guess most of us do the necessary checks like lubricants levels, gas, fuel, radiator ..... but its good if we make a habit of do all these checks before to any trip doesnt matter small or long journey as accidents from such leftovers can result in disasters. Once in Saudi, I came out from my house and started my car and in 5 seconds I heard a loud noise from my engine bay, switched off and poped the hood. Guess what? ??? a dead cat stuck in between my radiator fan and engine. I had to struggle hard to get that thing outta my car.

Lesson: It takes only few minutes to run these checks before starting any journey.

Thats good u getting nice average. 16 ya 17 to meri belta bhi kerti hai and I do play with S n B occasionally. No wonder its an economical car. Happy Driving

To be honest it gave me 19.4km/l without AC on a so called GT road (from fateh jang to Pindi gheb and back) couple of months ago. I am pretty sure it will maintain 16 or 17 on AC as climate control should contribute in fuel efficiency.

PS: I came across this website few months back and it has very nice tips for better fuel consumption.

True mileage of the car cannot be calculated just by filling once or twice... I have driven the car around 22000 KMs and the average mileage is 16.45Kms/L where i have burnt 1330 Liters of petrol (a litle bit of HOBC also).
There have been fillings where i got mileage of 21 and there are also fillings where i got reading of 14 or 15KM/Litre, but what counts is the average taken accross the whole period.

Zubair530, there is a difference in driving modes. Usually people drive casually. You hypermile like you showed last time.

True Zubair I agree what you said but dear my running is hardly 500kms a month, I use my second car for a daily run. I dunno how much money/fuel I burnt but what I know is the calculated average was never below 16. Also I never used Hi Octane so thats my next target to fill up Hi Octane and run a show on that.
What you are referring to is a syndrome where you want to achieve maximum mileage (knows as hyper-miling). You can check my above mentioned website about it.

What I like here is to get a reasonable average while enjoying your ride as well ...... enjoy means SnB here
