Toyota Corolla 1.6 2018 sluggish drive/throttle response

Hi,

My name is Dr Waqas and, I bought the said car, i.e., Corolla Altis 1.6 2018 F.L "USED" 2 months ago. At time of purchase, car's ODO was 31000 KMs. It had sluggish response and, I had to floor the accelerator a bit more than I like to get it to run optimally on road. At the time, there was tyre inflation issue, so I didn't pay much heed to it as I was suppose to drive the car to my hometown and back - a distance of some 1300-1400 KMs- for eid. So I simply changed the engine oil and, got the tyre issue rectified. My journey was pleasant but, the sluggishness didn't really went away completely. So, I researched a little on these forus and, used Liqui Moly Injector Cleaner on my last fuel top up. It improved the sluggishness a little but, did not eliminate the problem completely.

So now I come to you for help and advise. I was considering oil change from Shell to Liqui Moly 10W-30 or 5W-30 along with spark plugs replacement and, another can of either Liqui Moly Injector Cleaner or Fuel System Cleaner.

Your advise and recommendations are needed. Any help and, input is highly appreciated.

P.S, I live in KARACHI and get car petrol from HASCOL as I have had bad experience with other brands. In order to ensure the maximum fuel efficiency, I add 15-20 liters of Hi-octane fuel to 30-35 liters of super/unleaded.

Sluggish as in it takes a little bit more flooring the accelerator to drive, move, run optimally. It Kind of feels like the engine isn't providing the necessary power and, it requires a little extra effort. Matlab ki engine jese GHUTTI hui ho. This is the best explanation I can give.

Compared to my car, my brother also has the same car except its 2017 and not F.L. It operates as smoothly as it should. It doesn't require any extra effort to move or run, it's engine doesn't feel sluggish which requires a bit extra effort or power by flooring the accelerator a bit more etc. Hope you get the picture.

And lastly, I'm Considering all these other options as I suspect that i might have been conned and the car's ODO may have been reversed or tempered with, you know? Thus, my confusion and skepticism.

Don't know what you mean by sluggishness but if you drive the car with light foot, it will shift gears at low rpm, saving more fuel. But if you floor the car, it drives aggressively and shifts the gear at a higher rpm. It's with every Altis.

Just an input on refueling. Try refueling from PSO petrol pump adjacent aga Khan hospital. It's probably the best PSO pump in Karachi.

petrol from HASCOL is fine, do not use Hi-Octane.
simply use their tiger brand super.

get it scanned, from the Toyota. odo at 31000 km if genuine there is some problem in auto transmission, delay in pickup means the ECT working in limp mode. - what is the fuel avg as in 100 kms / xx liter.

1.6 Altis avg is 11 in city 13+ over highway.

My guess is car is running on ECO mode, which might explain the delayed pedal response which in owners terms is sluggish. FL models have this issue usually not an issue but users complain of sluggishness.

1- Check if eco mode is on.
2- Check your air filter as it might be dirty or clogged.
3- Get your car scanned from dealership.
4- Catalytic converter if choked also gives sluggish pedal response.

Sir. No need tor additives and moly poly. Use 5w30 local i.e

shell hx7.

And please avoid hascol where possible. Heard bad stories of them in karachi. Change the oil first and see the response. U kay get the plugs cleaned and not change for now.

Out of these quartz 9000 total is no. 1 in list. Been using it in 2 cars for a year now. Very much satisfied

Check fuel filter and Air filter
Cat Con could be choked if previous owner used low quality fuel
Tyre rim combo could the reasons incase of aftermarket rims + wider tyres
General Tune up by toyota including fault code scanning

Plugs change is necessary at 80000kms.
Fuel filter cleaning/inspection is necessary at 60000kms.
Only thing that comes in my mind is catalytic convertor. You need to clean it. I had this issue in my car at 35000kms
Previous owner must have used low quality fuel.
Purchase proficar catcon cleaner from proficar dealer in karachi. I use this cleaner at every 10,000kms now odometer is 86000kms. You can use proficar 5w30 engine oil, total 5w30 or zic 10w30/5w30. Check airfilter of your car as well.

If you haven't changed engine oil yet then previous owner might be using toyota 20w50 engine oil.

if you have been using Hi-Octane perhaps the fuel pump is picking up debris in fuel tank, filter is blocking the injector rail pressure (highly unlikely as it may cause delayed start & fuel starving) you may also ask workshop to check for fuel filter check cleaning the debris will be enough, no change is required
