It totally depends on your usage.
Diesel engines are high maintenance, specially when being this old.
Xli is a good reliable everyday car but again the point of the matter is the year 2006.
What ever you do a complete service will be inevitable after the purchase.
Every one has its own experience and opinion but I will prefer the petrol Xli for myself.

Moreover petrol engine options are v high in scrap yard like 1nzfe zzfe zrfe.....suspension is also abundantly available wheras diesel has some different suspension components to cater on heavy weight......diesel also has different approach to adjustment and maintenance.......also diesel token tax is high .....plus in diesel u have more wear on front tires but road grip and handling would be superb
However if u frequently drive on highways and in hilly plus rural areas then diesel has no match .......diesel also has good economy on long drives and ac performance is superb.
Plus if u overhaul 2c engine.......its cost exceeds 1 lac for a good and genuine overhaul whereas petrol assemblies are abundant in big cities

Im going for a 2.0D as it is more power full car it can take bumps and can easily go through rough roads and the pleasure of drive is more in 2D moreover XLI is the basic version and 2D is more like a premium one

Premium version is 2.0d saloon .....simple 2.0d is also basic .....all is same except engine if features are concerned....moreover xli has tachometer which simple 2.0d even dont have

There are two 2Ods. One is the basic just engine is different than XLi. Other is 2Od saloon. That is the premium one.
I would suggest an Altis 1800/1600 of same model

Se saloon came with 1600cc. And that engine burns engine oil like crazy.

The Xli was the most down model of them all. Xli didn't had a Rpm meter. Atleast simple 2od comes with indications on speedometer about handbrake etc. Xli didn't even had that. 2od is way better than Xli.
