I cant find trim pot. If any other civic 1998 owner can help here or assist

Hi guys, my Toyota Corolla 2003 EFI Automatic is consuming too much petrol these days (6 km/litre, no CNG installed). I have had the spark plugs replaced, engine tuned, fuerl filter replaced, oil changed at regular intervals, tire pressure is OK but nothing seems to work. Online some people recommend to replace the MAF sensor (which i clean regularly) and the oxygen sensors, and the dealership suggests getting fuel injectors replaced as well. All these repairs cost well above Rs.80,000 which isnt worth it. I am hoping to get parts from eBay or online.

I am open to suggestions and leads as to where I can get these parts at reasonable prices in Islamabad/Lahore.

He's facing what everyone goes through here, a rare problem that no 'mechanic' seems to be able to diagnose because they are mostly incompetent. Had he met a good diagnoser, he might have fixed his vehicle a lot sooner and cheaper.

cheap is relative.

usually this is what I ran into. Customer rolls in - says that he has a weird problem, Before working I mention my diag fee - if the work order is not signed up - (cheapskates usually left) - e.g. I would ask for Rs 2000/- for diagnosis

Same guy goes to 3 other shops and spends Rs 1000/- each time - he spent Rs 3000/- in total and still has the problem - but now half the car has been "paana taami" very sloppily and has eleven more issues.

JDM are far far more expensive to work on because new parts would cost you a very pretty penny (I dont work with scrap yard sourced disposable parts)

incident - accord CF3 rolls in with burnt ATF, sloppy driving, no shifting - (I already know this issue - the pressure control valve body in the trans has took a dump). Customer disagrees and takes it elsewhere where he was told - sirf turbein ka masla hai - (Torque converter is called turbine in Karachi)

he installs one from junk and promptly fries it. - goes on for 3 times and then gets a workshop to "change the transmission pump" - same problem again. - he spent 75% of the amount of a rebuild and still had the same issue again. So his actual repair cost was at 175% of normal.

Its too early to be sure of changes, will give it a week..the drive is considerably better and the acceleration smooth, previously the acceleration wasnt so smooth..previosly i could literally see the fuel dial going down real-time while driving but now the consumption has improved..i can only tell by how much after a week of driving..the guy asked me to bring the car back for inspection after 500 km for readjustments if needed

regarding the process, its called an AFR scan(air to fuel ratio)..so what was happening is that my car had an AFR of 12.2 before where the standard is 14.7. So basically it was consuming fuel that was too rich, thus the low mileage. If the AFR is high it means the fuel mixture is lean which results in engine not getting enough fuel to run properly. the factory setting is at 14.7 which needs to be adjusted after every 50,000 km as it can change over a period of time. Atta (the mechanic) first analysed readings from the car's exhaust and the car computer. he then changed fuel ration electronically to see if ECU is working correctly, which it was i.e.e the afr was changing when fuel settings were being changed. After this, he tuned the fuel sensor manually with a screw driver ( a tool exists to do it properly but he didnt have it) at different RPMs to bring the average from 12.2 to 14.7. All this took 15 minutes. I cant be sure if this is the exact way to correct AFR but it does work. The engine needs to get used to the new AFR which is why a week (or 500km) is a good time to measure consumption.

The whole process is documented in the form of a diagnostic report given to me at the end of the job. The diagnostic also revealed no problems with MAF, coolant temperature, others so we ruled them first to be sure it was the AFR that needed adjusting. Hope that helps

I paid Rs,1500 for the AFR adjustment that's all. And follow up tuning was included in that price. So I dont think its expensive considering it works. Mileage is much better now, 10 km/litre with a/c havent checked without a/c up from 5 km/litre

well I think 100% mileage increase after adjustment? well too low about the charge's it's nothing in front of your vehicle problem..

Yes drive is a lot better. The Rs.80,000 figure comes about when going around replacing fuel injectors, maf sensor at Toyota Motors prices. Obviously their diagnosis was all bull **** as always.
