Toyota Corolla Auto 1.3 GLI 2016 not shifting to 4th gear

Suggestion Required

Toyota Corolla 1.3 GLI Automatic not shifting to 4th gear.

I have not observed any slippage or any strange noises during driving and the gears are shifting smoothly from 1-3.
How do i know that its not shifting to 4th gear? Drove it to 120 km/h and manually shifted the gear between 3rd and drive but no rpm change and rpm @ 4k when driving @ 120 km/h
reverse is also working fine.
Bought the car @ 72K km
Changed the transmission oil after purchase (atf type iv)
Now @ 84k km.

Any suggestions from any one or some one with a similar problem got resolved.
Or if you know any good transmission mechanic in khi would be helpful

Try changing engine oil to 5w 30 preferably Toyota Taglon. With increase in engine performance ECU may shift gear to 4th one. Logic may seem strange but it worked for our auto gli 2016.

Are u sure t4 is recommended?
I think atf ws is the correct oil

I don't think it's something about oil. May be gear is not working properly get this done only from toyota

Bought the car second hand, the dip stick for gear oil has t4 mentioned but it could be that the dip stick is not original so can any one please confirm whats written on their gear oil dip stick for corolla 1.3 gli auto 2016 model

Will 5-30w be too thin? Was your's 1.3 or 1.6?

Thats the last resort i think. Just a bit curious though, since all other gears are shifting just fine, so wanted to get it checked first if there is some other fault?

5w 30 is recommended not thin. If you are using 20 w 50 engine oil switching will definitely help. Ours is 1.3

I got my changed at 60K i have the same car with the same model year and the recommend Oli is ATF-4

Did the pervious owner changed the ATF oil as it needs to be changed at 40K ???
Got mine changed on 47K and the oil was black and the mechanic told me that if i have drive it on the same oil it will damage my transmission..

in the trunk or engine bay there is a vehicle id plate of alumiunium look for transmission ( trans/axle ) code over it. use google to check which gear oil is recommended for that.

@Kamran.aslam sir can help he is working at mandviwalla motors as shared over some threads ago.

Did you contact Toyota dealership ??
Is there any kind of grinding noise when going into 4 gear or just the RPM rise but the car does not shift ?

No, havent contacted the dealer ship.
No grinding noise.
Rpm rise to 4k @ approx 105 km/h

Got the problem fixed
Later found out that the car was driving in 2nd and 3rd gear only while 1st and 4th gear was not engaging at all and the engine was reving abnormally high on higher speeds while pickup was dull at lower.
Solution:
Downloaded the service manual for transmission
There are total 5 solenoids (linear motors) in the transmission equal to the size of a finger, two of these are used to shift gears.
According to the troubleshoot and diagnostics in the manual, if solenoid 1 is not working then 2nd and 3rd gear wont engage and if the solenoid 2 is not working then 1st and 4th wont engage. Both solenoid are easy to access by opening the transmission cover from below.
Went to a transmission repair mechanic opposite central jail
He removed both solenoids found out S2 was completely gone and S1 was also going brown.
Replaced both of them and Voilla gears are cycling from 1 to 4 perfectly.
Total damage was 14k with new transmission oil + solenoids+ labour+new transmission oil filter

Hi Haris,

Can you please share the location of mechanic you went to? I have exact same problem with my GLI 15 model. Dull pickup and revs to 4k even 5k at higher speeds like 110,115 etc.

If you can share the location of the workshop, that would be awesome.
