What do you have to say about Corollas being driven in Texas/Arizona for which manufacturer recommends 0w20?

Temperatures there go past 50 degrees easy in summers

Civic has standard 0w-20 recommendation across the globe sir since 2012 i guess..m sure about 10th gen

Multi Grade oils were actually invented to cater for the ambient temperatures. Ambient temperature is very very important in selecting an oil.

Actually first two to three minutes after engine start are very important as this is the time when max wear and tear is anticipated.

The engine and its oil are at ambient temperature. And its this quality of a multi grade oil that saves the engine i.e it is able to properly lubricate the engine when itself is at ambient temperature.

That is what for engine oil and car manufacturer's give temperature graphs which tell us that this oil is good for such ambient temperature range.

If ambient temperature was not important we would still be using single grade oils.

Ambient has only to do with number before W.. the other number is viscosity. Extreme conditions as per our owners manual can be when i using my Rolla to take cows

Thats the point. Multi grade oils were invented to have the characteristics depicted by this W and the number before.

We already had the single grade oils earlier which had the same characteristics ratings shown by the digits after W in a multi grade oil.

0W20 and 5W30 both are ok, shouldn't be much difference. As I always say, we don't drive NASCARS....

i used 0w20 in my civic from first oil change till 20000km then one day it wasn't available so went for 5w30 and didn't felt any difference honestly. although the sound of the engine got better (less noisy) while using 5w30

Multigrade oils were invented to minimize the effect of ambient temperature on an oil.

Therefore with modern oils ambient temperature factor stands negligible/null as long as you are using what the manufacturer says.
A 0w20 can be used in Snow and Desert alike.

But... we need to keep in mind that manufacturers recommend different oil grades in different regions not because of weather but because of general availability of an oil.

If Toyota recommends 0w20 for Corolla in US and IMC recommends 5w30 in Pakistan doesnt mean Pakistan has some special hot weather system where it rains lava from the sky. Its because 0w20 isnt available here with ease.

Yes, but its not an appropriate solution.

Actually It should be other way round. Rather than car manufacturers depending on oil availability in a region they should make the best suited engine oil available in the region they are selling thousands of cars annually.

Can someone find a corolla manual stating 5W50 as one of the suitable oil? But 90% is pouring it here in Pakistan. Isn't that absurd

Just a guess, but I think engine oil industry sells there less selling grades in developing countries where the middle man (stealerships etc) earns max profit for misguiding customers and recommending a least preferable grade of oil.

But if the customer knows that he is being fooled, he should make better choices himself.
