Assalamalikum everyone.
I have a corolla gli 2015 manual, with 59000 km on it. I have recently come across a problem where upon harsh braking the brake responses fine in the initial part but as more pressure is put (harsher braking), the brake pedal slips and goes deep in and during this sinking period the brake does not work(the stopping power is gone) and there is a grating noise along with it (a grrr grrr type sound); as the pedal gets close to the floor, brake starts working again.
This occurs at speeds of around 45-50 km/hr, third gear speeds at least, and when harsh braking is done.
Soft braking works fine, even at higher speeds.
I had a mechanic check the car, he inspected the master cylinder, which according to him was fine.
I have already replaced all 4 brake pads with toyota's genuine ones, the problem still persists.
I would also like to point out that over the last 1.5 years, there have been many instances where the ABS light would turn on, however, on restarting the car, the light would go away. The last time this happened was 4 months ago. At this time with the above problem, the ABS light has not turned on at all.
Could this be an ABS issue, or the master cylinder, or something else?
I would appreciate any help!
