Also look out for black deposits on tissue while cleaning it with tissue. Have you changed the filter also.

Did not see any black deposits, but I didn't look carefully. I did not change anything yet, just bought 2 weeks ago. What should it smell like? Should I replace the oil anyway just to be safe?

if u have adopted the car and u dont know age and brand of ATF used, its better to change it with toyota type iv atf, use the recommended one by the manufacturer, dont fall in trap of zic totachi etc.

Will do! I bought it from a dealer so I don't have a direct contact with the owner and the dealer don't seem to be interested in contacting the owner and ask him these questions.
Also how much transmission oil does it need? I see 2 packings, 1 and a 4 litre packing

First take out the dipstick and see what is mentioned on it. By factory this model has early U341E Transmission which uses Type-IV ATF but who knows even gear has been changed before so its better first see the what is written on dipstick. Btw whats the color of dipstick? Red or Black?

You should start with 20w50 , run the car for 1000 km's and see the engine dip stick if oil level is decreased then stick to it else you can go one up in next oil change but your engine has previously been overhauled then its better not to take risk

As per Toyota, 5w30 should be used in this engine and if not available then 10w30 can also be used.

It will take 3.5~4 liters better also replace filter

I am confused with your suggestion. Should I use 20w50 or go with the recommended oil 5w30? Also there's nothing written on the ATF dipstick about the ATF type

the AT in ur car takes Toyota type IV atf, u can use ATF-WS but better stick to type IV.

watever u do but never pour CVT oil in it.

20W-50 is too thick, u can gradually move towards thinner oil in order:

try 10w-40 if u feel engine reving freely with no blowby or blue smoke from exhaust, then move on to even thinner oil.

Actuay people want that if 3 liter oil is poured into en engine, exact same quantity shud be there on oil change.

Many engines, German, Japanese, Italian do consume some oil and if the oil consumption is under tolerence level of manufacturer then i think nothing to worry about.

1zzfe, powerplant in ur car had been notorious for excessive oil consumption, you can google it up, but toyota fixed some oil rings else to resolve this issue.

to minimize the oil consumption, people pour the universal oil of ustaads which is 20w-50 and too thick for any engine beyond stoneage era.

so just do some research and be confident on ur decesion.

I also cleaned the MAF sensor. The pin which has dorplet type tip had so much greese and dirt that the contact cleaner couldn't clean it even after trying several times sprayin on it. Also today I checked the ATF dipstick and it had this written on it (pic attached). I think he replaced it with the genuine gear box. Also please help me with the engine oil. I saw some Petron series of oil by Toyota and another one which was in tin packing printed black. Which on to go for? Sorry for stupid question, but I have Baleno and I never payed a heed on these things. It is a family car so it was beaten by everyone now that I own this car I want to maintain it properly the way it should be.

Alright so monitoring the sensors what should be g/s value for MAF on idle for a 1zzfe engine? Also what should be the idle RPM with and without AC? Mine seem a bit on the upper side. 980 RPM on idle without AC (parking gear) and 1200 on AC (P gear) both on idle after 5 minutes of starting up the engine.

extend the nossel and spray close to that sensor, it should be clean like mineral, i guess due to air leak dirt n gunk is there, it need to be clean to perform as it shud be, let th contact cleanre there and try blowwing of with pressurised air,

yes its TYPE IV ATF.

Petron is oil marketed by toyota. it comes from caltex as well. as far as i know.

check teh oil specs and viscosity
