Toyota Duet 2003, wondering if it will sell easy?

Salam everyone. Hope I come to a solution with the valuable comments of the fellow Pakwheelers.

My father recently bought a Toyota Duet, he had hardly told me anything of it, I asked him about the condition of the car and he sent an inexperienced person to inspect it.

Well to cut it to short, the car is fully repainted VERY poorly. It still has deep scratches on the roof and dings are to be found in the rear of the car. Paint chipping and cracking are present as well.

God knows how much the car has driven the salesmen (whoever my father bought from) said it is driven only 20k. Even a blind person can tell a car that old wouldn't be 20k driven.

It is obviously driven a lot and must have more than 100k miles on real ODO.

My father is a very impulsive person and he doesn't care about the car’s condition HE bought the car for 565k without proper inspection.

I am left in frustration whether such a car will be able to sell. I need advice. Thanks.

Is the engine changed?...maybe he meant 20k km on changed engine....but then how did he calculate this number even.....is the odo working?

How does the car drives itself? Any issues in pick up? Abnormal sounds? Gear shifts fine?

If it drives well then it can sell....if the body condition is bad then it can be worked on at some expense

Any ways it's not a easy sell, the only plus point is auto tranny. But for 600k. One can easily get a 2002 Japanese Suzuki alto automatic.

Yes it will sell but only when one comes looking for a duet, or will give loss on selling.

One can find a 2006-7 passo in 700-725k range.

To add pain to your existing pain...its hard to sell even a bumper to bumper genuine duet..u can easily guess about a painted one bro.

I can't tell if the engine is changed, my father wasn't told about it... Odo shows 111,383 miles, so I guess it has its engine changed.

Pickup is slow, and when the car is slightly floored it makes a ”boooo” sound for a second then stops. Also goes to high RPM in slight paddle press. I just can't floor it without having to hear that noise.

Paint is just in horrible condition like it was painted under the sun then was cleaned with a broom 🧹 that's how it looks like honestly judging from the scratches on the roof. Which makes no sense to me how they got scratches there.

Sir, my father can't drive a manual car that's why he went for a A/T Duet. He basically knows nothing about the cars or regarding their resale value.

I did all I could to persuade him to get a 2000-2003 Vitz but he kept on insisting that it's a 7 lakhs car. I also had Passo, Mira in my mind if he would just increase his budget and get it.

Yeah. I just figured how hard it will be to sell. Can't change what's done. I've been forced to drive Duet for some reasons, my real car 1.6 is stuck in a home for 1 month now.

Start with basics.

Do not even attempt to hate the car.

Check if the serial number from the engine that does match from the car or document.
Engines here can last at least 200,000kms unless the previous owner beat the heck of it.

Leave the paint alone (unless it's really bad). Just wash "service" and wax it. Just make sure it's not too rusty under it.

Disconnect the battery's negative terminal, and turn on the light switch for at least 1 minute.
Turn it off, and reconnect the terminal. This should solve the problem.

Make sure the battery and tire pressure are okay.

Change the spark plugs, air-filter, fuel-filter, oil (if necessary). Do the CNG tune-up (if equipped).
Try using a fuel system cleaner.
Clean the mass-air sensor locating between air-filter and throttle with contact cleaner only (Disconnect the battery first). NEVER use anything but that.

Not sure about the "boo" sound, it could be a clogged exhaust system.

If it revs high on first, or higher gears, change the transmission fluid and PRAY it solves the problem.

For safety purpose (if necessary)
Align and balance the wheels.
Check for the electrical system.
Replace the coolant with clean A/C "distilled" water. Keep changing it every 100kms till its clear.
Check for the CNG cylinder (if equipped).
Check for brakes and suspension.

If the car runs at least good. Just baby and take care of it for life.

These are the best possible answers I can give.

I would like to update this thread by adding that I have sold this car in 165k lakh loss. It was initially bought for 565k and re-sold for 400k to a relative.

Although, I had countless offers of 450k, in the end, my uncle offered me 400k and I had to accept because... Relative.

Got many offers from OLX than PW, though I got more views on my ad on PW.
