After driving Toyota Fortuner 2.8D for over 2 months and 3500kms, here’s an overview of my experience. I recently took it to Galyat and managed to drive it on multiple terrains ranging from concrete, gravel and steep slopes. The 1-GD engine has plenty of low-end torque to ensure smooth drive in hilly areas. Furthermore, I have also tested it’s Down Hill Assist (DAC) and Low Range 4x4 and they definitely provided a lot of grip and power when needed.

The Cabin is fairly quiet under 2K Revs, but still not comparable to a petrol engine. Other features like having a 100W 2-Pin switch, electronic tail-gate, cool box and tons of cubby spaces really added value to the entire travel experience. The suspension is a bit stiff as mentioned by fellow members. Otherwise, it’s a very capable SUV.

Just received my fortuner S4. Please need some advice from the forum,, the steering is left aligned and I can hear some noise also from steering but I m not sure of wat it is. The headlight low beam has certain dip in it towards the slight right side from the center line of vehicle,, I hope I am making sense. Should I tell these observations on 1000k checkup or what

Same was the issue of Alignment with mine just wait till 1000 check up then just tell them they ll do it for u free of cost... but be rude with them

The RH projector is angled differently to avoid glare to oncoming traffic. It is as per factory specs.

That headlight is perfectly normal. A RHD vehicle headlight has a dip on the right side to avoid glare on to oncoming traffic.
About the steering. I've been driving the sigma4 since 1 month now and the steering is perfectly aligned, and there is no noise. Despite testing it on numerous occasions. So I suggest you get it checked right now. If it's not too bothersome then you may wait till the 1000km checkup.

How does the paint quality in Fortuner compare with general toyota paint here (vs local corolla 2012 and PKDM Vigo)? Has toyota made any improvements? Or will it fade out from edges of doors etc with time like in other toyota cars?

The edges are an issue with all cars. Only way to avoid that is keep it waxed and minimise use of compound. And when needed mask the edges while compounding. Later use a light hand after removing the masking. Also don’t use abrasive waxes and polishes.

Majority of the waxes have cleaning elements which help speeding up the process. Always go light with the force on edges whether by hand or polisher

Thank you for the detailed response. I still feel that in comparison with Honda, the paint in Toyota fades earlier around the edges, all else kept equal.
And then again, if someone could let me know if the paint on Fortuner the regular toyota stuff? Or any better than regular?

Its regular Toyota. Orange peel at its best and I had to get a 3” piece of my rear fender painted for which the painter compounded the remaining piece as well to match color. As a result the grey primer of the entire fender edges got exposed and I had to get the whole fender resprayed as well.

I was monitoring the works live and trust me just compounding exposed the sharp edges slightly, that hammered me a lot so I thought might as well get the whole piece done because car was new and plan to keep it for long.

Just this touching was required which could have been merged with a 2K paint material later and wetsanded to blend but like I told the story above, ended up doing this entire piece because this sharp line running below and also there is a line above fuel cap both got exposed as well.

The thing is, in my opinion only 2 colors suit an SUV: White or Black. Silver is a color which is good for such issues but when comes to SUVs, Silver would be my last option that too which I won’t ever consider.
