I second this. Never had any experience with diesel. Even the large v6 or v8 suvs that I've driven have been petrol too.

Considering it'll be driven intra city most of the time with few occssional trips up north, reliability, maintenance and engine refinement are of utmost concern to me.

Could someone please shed some light on as to how the new 1GD-ftv diesel is compared to the petrol variant?

Saw some Indian reviews of the 2.8 diesel and their opinion is that this engine is more refined than the previous d4d but that diesel rattle is audible and it requires more frequent service intervals as compared to the petrol version.

In simple words it would give you the fuel economy of civic and acceleration of Grande.

Correct me if I’m wrong but this diesel engine will have more torque than the 2.7 petrol one right?

Yes acc to specs and reviews much much more torque. Around 450Nm-ish @1600rpm compared to 240Nm something of the petrol. A very punchy low-end acceleration. Even the horsepower is greater 175 vs 164.

Petrol engines generally have double the life compared to a diesel plus requires half the maintenance on an average. Petrol engines are quite, sophisticated though have less torque & minor fuel economy difference compared to diesel which equals with the maintenance cost in the end.

A petrol head will always be a petrol lover.... Diesel has its own plus but our Pakistani diesel needs a lot to change even it troubles bmw engines in a matter of 50000km run. Petrol on the other hand is improved alot in the last year.
