Yeah lets see the market response to 1GD and whether or not V6 engine comes out or not. I don't expect taxes to be reversed the reason is diesel is the fuel of Big Business while petrol is mostly used by workers, salaried persons etc. In other words govt. wants to tax business rather than motorbikes, etc.

You are totally wrong here.

Diesel is the fuel of agriculture, transport, construction and so on. It is not a luxury. And when it becomes expensive it affects everybody. Expensive diesel is making the manufacturing in Pakistan costly and it is one of the reason our produce be it agricultural or industrial cannot compete in open market. Diesel is like investment and petrol is like expense. We should try to make our investments more (by making diesel cheap so that there is more manufacturing) and we can earn more but reduce our expenses (by making petrol expensive.)

Whereas petrol is a luxury (although sort of.) Cheap petrol and cheap motorcycles is the reason you see so much congestion on our roads. No doubt cheap petrol and motorcycles give mobility to people but in the presence of other alternatives like public transport aka metro bus etc, it is pure wastage. This is like using trucks instead of railway for goods transport.

I personally believe that government should not artificially manipulate price of any fuel. Let the market set the trends.

yeah production of goods is known as business..Pakistan is not the first country to tax diesel more than petrol..almost all countries do it even today. reason is to give comparative relief to common man(who uses petrol). as shown in graphic above, even in India where diesel is cheaper than petrol, the tax on diesel is actually higher than tax on petrol, for same reason as I said.

this is related to field of macroeconomics FYI and lot of policies and their results are well known and understood globally. which policy to adopt is up to the govt. depending on their priorities and country's level of development and society's economic standing

May be I don't understand economics and may be you are an expert in economics. And also probably our government has all policies which are very accurate and effective. And as a result of our govt's policies we are a first world country and the human development index is top of the list with GDP exceeding USA and China and per capita income double that of Qatar.

I don't want to discuss politics or economics anymore. Matter of fact is the current engine in Fortuner is far better than older petrol engine. It is more responsive and fun to drive both on road and offroad. The best of both worlds. Period.

If someone is interested in more acceleration and speed with low engine noise, refinement, economy etc. he should buy a civic instead.

Any idea that toyota is going to offer these new goodies (i.e. automatic tailgate, push start etc) to current owners of Fortuner? Since they have already left space for these options

Aoa everyone I have been reading the comments on the new diesel fortuner and we have a mix of feelings in the users . Personally I went to see the fortuner myself and have the following observations :-

1. The Diesel engine noise is quite sound proofed inside the car with doors and windows closed in comparison to the new Revo however it is slightly more than petrol engine if you are critically observing it. With music system on and the car on the road it shouldn’t be that much of a botheration.
2. The new additions in comparison to the last year are quite a substantial update I would say. I wouldn’t want to buy such an expensive jeep without smart entry, downhill assist and powered rear gate.
3. Now coming to the sore issue I.e 4x4. In my humble opinion if I am buying a jeep paying more than 6 Mil PKR and there is no 4x4 in it, I would rather buy a BMW sedan or X1 or Audi . Those giving the logic that 4x4 is hardly used in city, I would humble disagree. Then what’s the point of buying it in the first place might as well use money towards Vezel or Vitara or BR-V. If u need 7 seats then Prius Alpha, BR-V, APV, and other options are the solution. Bottom line if one is to spend around 6 Mil specifically on a jeep then it should have a 4x4.
4. About the concerns of diesel quality we have Euro-2 diesel since 2017 and hopefully there won’t be issues relating to that.
5. As far as power is concerned Diesel engine seems more powerful. Firstly torque is double so pick up should be more than petrol engine . Secondly output is also more and that diesel eng max output is at 3400 rpm whereas that of petrol engine is at 5200rpm . In simple language more power at lesser fuel consumption. Similarly the torque is twice at a much lesser rpm. Overall it should have much better fuel economy than the petrol engine. Should give around 650 km in a tank compared to 450 km for petrol.
   4- As far as maintenance is concerned with synthetic oil it should be changed at 5k which is good. Rest there is no maintenance issues after all it’s a Toyota.
   5- As of now there is an ON of 6 lakh on the diesel variant so people are buying it.
   6- Prado is a very good Jeep but 5 years old with unknown history and min price tag of 7.5 mil with very basic features isn’t value for money.
   7- until we have a competitor vehicle in this category like Hyundai, Nissan or others Fortuner should be able to retain its market share. So all those waiting to decide I advise to go for it. It’s a very good value for money Jeep.

How? And how does one qualitatively assess diesel fuel like we have octane rating for petrol?

Fortuners don't have the provision for radar cruise anywhere. The Australian-spec Fortuner Crusade is the best-equipped one I've seen, and it comes with LED self-levelling lights, 7 airbags, an 11-speaker JBL audio system, and a touch-screen navigation system.

The gulf-spec Fortuner has 3 airbags (though it comes with an option for a 4.0 1GR-FE V6 and no diesel).

Fortuner isn't exactly made to be an urban SUV....it's a body-on-frame wagon based on the Hilux, and it's sold more as an off-road capable machine that can also tow up to 2800kg here in Australia...

The comparable size urban SUV with full-time auto-selected AWD, radar cruise etc is the Toyota Kluger (aka Highlander), which has the 2GR-FKS 3.5V6 engine. It is based on the Camry chassis.

It is a safety provision. I have a GPS in my Aurion and when the Speedo shows 100, the true speed of the car is closer to 95.

Speed cameras here in Australia will fine drivers going 3kph above the limit.
