ALWAYS follow the Owner's Manual and remember that the owner's manual supersedes whatever any service advisor at one of the Toyota Dealerships tells you, in case what he says contradicts what's mentioned in the manual. I state this on authority and based on my own (service) experience at senior level with Indus Motors Pakistan Limited in the past.
The Manual recommends oil change at 2,500km and oil filter change at 5,000km in normal conditions. Just follow it.
The quality of diesel available in Pakistan as well as the dusty environment (especially in southern Pakistan) further increases the need for oil change at every 2,500km.
For longevity of engine, keep changing oil, oil filter AND AIR FILTER at intervals prescribed in the manual.
If you are concerned about the cost of air filter at which the dealerships are selling you, please note that I've been buying pretty decent (imported) quality air filters from Plaza Karachi at under Rs. 1,500 per air filter for my Revo and I change them after every 2,500 kms. Moreover, I'm getting cabin filter at under Rs. 1,000 which I also change at 2,500km. Helps keep my fuel efficiency as well as AC cooling at optimum level. My fuel economy after having driven over 16k kms is still average above 10km/L (80% city) and it includes one all-Pakistan 4,500+ km trip as well.
