1) be clear in your mind about your intended purpose of use for the vehicle you're buying. You might end up deciding you neither want an SUV or Pickup Truck, but rather, a Civic 1.8 Oriel. You never know. Having said that, both vehicles have different purposes and if your requirement is served only by a pickup truck then buying an SUV is out of question and vice versa.
2) Drive both vehicles yourself and then decide. Sit on the rear seat of both vehicles and let someone drive. Feel the difference yourself. Forget what anyone says or claims. Test drive vehicles are available at most dealerships.
3) Having driven both, Fortuner has a better grip, softer ride and better experience for rear seat passengers. If you're not into hunting, fishing, carrying stuff in the deck which you don't want to put inside SUV's cabin, prefer 7 seater over 5 seater, bitchy about ride comfort, don't have guards tagging along and are indifferent about resale value, then get the Fortuner. At the same time, if you're a serious outdoor junkie, have a small family, don't need extra cabin space, are pertinent about economical maintenance and better resale value, like to treat vehicle for what it is rather than an investment, then Hilux Revo is the one for you.
If you are still confused then screw both and get the Civic, but whatever you do, do not ask Dawar for advice.
