Toyota Hilux Revo vs Toyota Fortuner

Ahson you have been a great help throughout this journey and thank you for such a detailed and helpful response yet again.

Despite a raise in the price of the Revo, I have come to the conclusion of sticking with the Toyota Hilux Revo and for a good couple of reasons. The Revo is a much stronger vehicle compared to the Fortuner and while Fortuner offers a little more comfort to the passengers, the Revo promises a smooth drive but robustness too.

Also, the fact that Revo offers better resale and is the more attractive vehicle (and cheaper!) - I think I'm making the right decision.

Thanks guys so much for this question specially @abdullahsalmanand thanks a lot to @ahsontariq as well for an elaborate response. I have the same issue and was toying with the idea of which one shd I go for, I am more of an offroad junkie and love going up North. I believe Revo is the one, though I have to compromise for rear seat comfort but I believe it should make up for the peace of mind that I am using a tough offroader. Now the color I am thinking of White Red or Silver. I had a Red Civic Turbo 1.5 that I am selling along with another SUV Paj 3 door. So I might go for silver.

Well i own Revo and my cousin own new Fortuner, i went for local Revo as i didnt like the power of Fortuner as i used to own Thai Vigo 2700cc petrol which is same engine as Fortuner but new fortuner got better transmission with 6 speed. The ride is less bumpy compare to Revo but u can add better shock absorber for smoother ride. Revo got more power and torque plus better fuel mileage like i average 8.5km/L within city drive compare to 6-6.5km/L of Fortuner average fuel consumption. Maintenance cost of Revo is higher than Fortuner as diesel need servicing earlier than petrol engine. Revo is more rugged and strong as one of my friend's new fortuner was struggling to overtake on long route to the beach with 5 adults and 2 kids and i was with 7 ppl 3 adults 2 kids and 2 guards cud easily overtake the cars. The best part is i can easily tune to get more power from Revo engine and still retain the warranty from Toyota and btw Revo got better resale value than Fortuner.

P.S There's rumor going on about new fortuner with diesel engine about to launch soon but not exactly sure wen....if the new fortuner is coming in diesel engine then i will recommend over Revo.

i think Red color has been discontinued in Revo.

Ahhh so there is a twist...if that is the case and Fortuner does launch with the same Diesel Engine I guess it will definately take the lead in power, with shorter wheel base, though I guess Fortuner is heavier than Revo. But still I believe with Revo under me I would be confident to do tough offroads like Saiful Malook Noori Pass Shimshal etc compared to a Fortuner that looks more fancy than rugged. That is my only concern. Regarding point about shocks, the back leaf spring, you can't do much with it can you, I have heard it has been improved.

Not with the same diesel engine as Revo, it might come in new diesel engine 2.8T which is currently available in Thai Revo. I guess the new fortuner is not heavier than Revo due to petrol engine being lighter than diesel engine, i will try to weigh both Revo and Fortuner at the weight scale on the way to work.

Great post. A question tho, did you by any chance sell the Thai Vigo to someone in Lahore?

Oh. We're probably talking about the same Vigo then. My cousin got one a year ago for his guards and the vehicle is amazing. Haven't seen a more capable and powerful Toyota off-roader.

I think the Thai Vigo is more superior to the Pakistani Revo in terms of power and ability. What is your opinion on the matter considering you have driven both?

My Thai Vigo was 2700cc petrol, the quality was far better than local vigo champ but engine power was not great as Revo or Thai Vigo 3.0d4d.

The Toyota website puts weight of the Revo 270 Kg over Fortuner. So you have Fortuner at 2620 and Revo at 2890. So in case Fortuner is offered with a 2.8 Diesel I believe it will move ahead in terms of comfort, looks and power....What says you?

With a Diesel engine it's weight may go up as well a 100 150 Kg or so...right?

Those are gross vehicle weight not the actual weight, fortuner kerb weight is 2000kg and Revo is around 2020-2050kg depend on variant....yes it will increase the weight of Fortuner with new diesel engine but not by much as newer 2.8T diesel engine is much lighter than old 3.0T diesel engine.

Good point. I was comparing Revo G with Fortuner. I guess the new Revo has a newer 3.0 IKD improved and powerful than the last Vigo. But if Fortuner comes with a 2.8 it would then also come in to consideration set of real off-road lovers. Though I still feel that Revo is more agressive and robust than Fortuner. Only hind side is that it is hard to maneuver in tight spots going up mountains specially because of its length and light weight at back, so I guess have to add on some weight at the back to make it have better traction while climbing

its same engine from Thai Vigo champ 3.0d4d VNturbo with 5 spd auto, yes Revo is more robust and can be easily use as off-roader. A lot of Revo owner has taken parts in rally and they are quite happy with it.

From what I have heard Revo has a newer 1KD-engine that was not present with Vigo. The Toyota website claims that as well.
