yes but synthetic oil is best for this engine. use any good synthetic oil(5w-30 or 5w-40) and change it every 4000km to 5000km.

I have Toyota hilux Vigo(2008) with d4d engine. 51000km driven. Allah humdulila never feel any problem with this engine,Beleive me its performance is much better then 2.7 0r 3.4 petrol engines.
It is recommended to use low sulphur diesel, but you should also be able to run on normal (500PPM)diesel as the low sulphur is not readily available.The safer option is fill up at a busy petrol pump, as this ensures a high turn-over of diesel in the mass storage tanks and you do get the advantage of the purging (constant dillution of impurities and reduced opportunities of growing algae).
i am using "shell helux ultra 5w-40 synthetic oil".you change Engine oil after every 3500 km you will not face any problem insha ALLAH.

Use Mobil 1 in it and replace every 10,000 kms or a little early like 8000 kms if you drive in the city too much.

For the so called - ganda dirty diesel - thats why you have fuel filters in it, replace them when you get the vehicle and replace them every 20,000 kms regardless. Keep the engine in good shape by not torturing the hell out of it, And the best thing to do to your Vigo is to place the intercooler at the front of the vehicle. and NEVER EVER wash your engine when its hot - you will ruin the high pressure pump and injectors as they can warp their insides destroying themselves. If you do want to wash your engine - wash it when its dead cold and allow it to dry for at least 2 hours before starting it.

Someone should teach these techniques to Government mechanics and car maintainers. Ive seen my mamoo's Government Vigo's getting washed by government crew (engine wash aswell) just after a 500km trip (RYK to Pakpattan)

2 Nissan CD engines are a failure (while they are known to last galactic mileages all over the world)

3 Toyota DI diesels are a failure (they are known workhorses everywhere else)

4 VW beetle (aircooled) is a stupid car with flawed physics and heats up and catches fire - Wonder how it became a roaring success all over the world

imho, PSO stations of good repute offer diesel giving the most mileage and best drive, besides the car becomes smokeless too!

attock stations are the worst...

1. use good synthetic engine oil and change at an appropriate interval considering the environment you drive in (eg. a cold place where its raining most of the time has cleaner cooler air, a dessert runner obviously requires shorter change intervals)

2. Fuel filter and air filter replacement should be done without haste! esp. fuel filter....

Go to a third world country in Africa - thats called severe service.

in Pakistan the failure is due to.

1 Our people dont take their cars to proper workshops but like to take it to their cornershop mechanic - who usually has no idea what he's doing with his worn out tools and hammers.

2 Trying to re-engineer the car (remove T stat, lock radiator fan or if electric hot wire it) - it will always result in disaster, shimming the crank bearings with paper thin inserts etc.

3 Cheap thinking in everything (dont argue with me about living conditions, when you buy a machine you cough up its maintenance too - its pricey yes but its the bitter truth) like buying parts or anything including service. Take anyone - they will buy the cheapest replacement part and complain that this car is flop/fail etc. If they had bought an original item and installed it correctly it will function for quite a long time like the original did and it would not be FAIL

The problem is lack of know-how. In Pakistan everyone thinks they are the best in everything - WRONG - leave the jobs to professionals who actually know what to do - but the definition of professional needs to be laid down to them though.

I have heard that injectors need replacement every 50,000 km if low quality diesel is used and 100,000 km if good diesel is used. Moreover the cost high amount near to 100k. Is vigo really this high Maintainance or is it a myth?

Allah humdolila I have 135k on my ODO . No issue at all .

I bought a Hilux Invincible 2009 (South African) a few weeks ago. It has 135K on ODO.

A friend of mine who kept vehicles with D4D engine told me that my truck needed injector replacement along with pump service.

My car doesn't have engine knocking, smoke or any other strange sound. The only weird sound I noticed is when I ramp it up the turbo makes a continues whistle sound.

@Xulfiqar, @Qaisrani do I need to visit a mechanic? If so, what shall I get checked?

the turbocharger whistle is probably a leak from the suction side of the turbo.
