Brother any survey , any selection, what about swap?

I did some survey and decided to not go for 1NZ. The reason for not choosing this engine is that I wanted to go for stock engine, non-stock engine like 1NZ decreases the re-sale value of the car, also there are number of modifications required as mentioned by Bro Humayun, also I am not a car enthusiast, I only require a reliable, standard and easy swap and that's the reason I am going for swap with A series.

There are a number of good condition japanese A series engines available in the market but most of them are with automatic transmission. Mechanics seems very confident with change from auto to manual but I am still thinking about it. I have shortlist two engines in very good with reasonable rates one is 5A and the other is 4A. So I could go for 5A with auto or manual or 4A with auto or manual. Any suggestions in this regard will be helpful.

4AFE with maunal will be a good combination of decent power and fuel economy as well given that the engine is in good health. Consider a 7AFE 1762CC with manual as well, it has nice low end torque, power and decent fuel economy considering its a 1.8l. Newer generation engines will be available in great condition, but these A Series engines are also great if in good condition.

It depends upon your driving habit and requirement to choose between auto or mannual.if you find any 4a with ECT auto having complete uncut wiring and similar ect Ecu,you will enjoy the ride.try to perform compression test before purchasing engine.

Thanks for the advice, I am really very confused regarding the pressure testing many people have suggested, how can this be done with engine sitting in a shop? Please guide me in this regard.

Take compression tester and your cars battery with you.how to perform test many video are available on youtube. For 4afe,5afe maximum 192psi and not less than 150 psi.

I see, thanks. That seems very useful. I ll ask the guy to let me test it like this. I ll share the results as well. Is there a way to check what the serial number on the engine means, is that helpful in verifying the engine origin?

What is the price comparison of A series and 1NZFE .

What you want to do with its origin.find engine having uncut wiring test compression thats enough with engine..remaining depends upon your electrition and mechanic what will they do with you.....if you want mannual transmission try to find engine which is already matted with mannual....As your mechanic is saying that he will change the auto transmission with mannual not an issue.....the issue is all the A series engine have gear box that looks to be same but have different final gear ratio......4a and 7a are matted with c50 or c52 and 5a is matted with c51.

Get 5AFE it is mostly jdm. 4AFE is mostly from singapore Philippines region. 5AFE with manual transmission will be sufficient. There are shops in Mithu Khan Rawalpindi Saddar and get complete engine with each and everything.

The thing is that 4A-FE comes in pkdm 1.6 gli, I am doubtful he may sell me that one? How to make sure its imported one? In case I can't be sure of that, i guess just the internal color and compression should be enough to be sure that its good engine.

So regarding the Transmission, the model of the transmission should be written somewhere on the unit, checking that should be enough? I ll have another discussion with the mechanic If I am not confident of the transmission he ll swap I ll check the market again for manual in good condition.

Bro 1NZ is either the same price or sometimes a bit cheaper than A series.

Guys I am only able to find two 5A Manual in complete Mitho Khan and Kuh Sultan Markets. Picture of one of them is attached. Tell me if it looks good enough or not based on the color?

Why not 7afe ? as prices are almost same for 4a,5a & 7a.

You can get a clean latest gen 7a.

An engine with CKP sensor & non-adjustable distributor with single wiring harness, tells you that its a latest gen engine.

I didn't ask about 4A and 7A.

Does 5A also have crank sensor and non-adjustable distributer cuz when today I asked the electrician whether he will get the CKP sensor running, he said something on thr lines of yes its in the distributer or something? Please clarify if 5A has CKP and CMP sensors?

I got an offer of 135k for this complete engine with air cleaner box, engine mounts, fuel pump, complete wiring, all service/installtion charges and they keep my 2E engine and gear. This does not include engine, gear and power oil and replacement of damage/worn out parts in the engine bay.

Electrician said he will clear all codes and the diagnose box will be used for confirmation. These engines genuinely don't come with obd sensor in the dashboard.

Overall rates in the market are the same for manual and automatic, only a few other parts are required in automatic i.e. speedometer, footrest/pedal set, gear lever which adds up to approximately 11k.

The other 5A M/T was quoted for 155k with same items as above and that engine was in a better condition, color wise, than this. I could not take a picture of that. That guy was in Kuh Sultan. He is very expensive but people say his work is tension free.

In market there are plenty of automatic engines of 4A,5A and 7A with prices ranging from 125k to 160k (same items as above).

Folks after some study I have compiled the list of following sensors to get working for any engine, now the experienced guys here can help me confirm which of these exists in 5A-FE with similar nomenclature as below or otherwise:

1. Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor, starts and stops the radiator fan for engine temperature regulation.

2. Intake Air Temperature Sensor, located in the air filter box.

3. Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor (MAP) measure vaccum pressure inside manifold and helps calculate engine load to regulate injectors.

4. Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) measures the accelerator pressed by driver and thus controls fuel injection and spark timing.

5. Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP) is responsible for telling the ECU the current position of the camshaft. With this information the ECU can calculate which valve is open and throw fuel through the injector into that cylinder. This sensor is found on one end of the camshaft, usually on the right side in a front wheel drive car.

6. Crankshaft Sensor (CKP) is responsible for telling the ECU the exact location of the crankshaft as well as the the engine RPM. Its located at the bottom of the engine on one end of the shaft.

7. Oxygen Sensor (O2) is responsible for detecting the oxygen content in the exhaust fumes and to maintain the correct air/fuel ratio.

8. Knock Sensor is able to detect mechanical stress and produces a voltage when the car knocks amd sends to ECU and the ECU adjusts to compensate for the knocking, which in effect protects the pistons and rings from damage.

9. Idle Air Controller is an actuator and not a sensor which maintains the RPM at steady rate.
