Toyota has announced it will produce the original cruiser 70 for only one year in Japan.
Set to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the model, it is re-launched in Japan because there is still a strong demand from local customers and Toyota expects around 200 orders monthly. The off-road vehicle was discontinued in 2004 but is still available in some markets like Australia and some parts of Asia.
The Land Cruiser 70 will be offered as a standard four-door van as well as a double-cab pickup truck. First launched in 1984, the off-roader is powered by an updated 4.0-liter V6 petrol unit with an aluminum block and VVT-i technology that generates 231 PS (170 kW) and 360 Nm (265 lb-ft) of torque. The engine is mated to a five-speed manual transmission. According to the producer, the model averages 15.1 l/100 km (15.5 mpg).
The design of the now 30-year-old Land Cruiser 70 has been slightly modernized and features an updated grille and hood as well as redesigned headlights incorporating turn indicators on the front. Modern safety technologies include airbags and ABS, while a trip computer is also standard.
