Having owned both cars I can present some of my humble views regarding the car.
Looks: - Interior and Exterior
Toyota Vitz
Exterior: 9.7/10Points
Interior: 9/10Points
Head turning car if in good condition. Excellent curves and design. The headlights are large and add to the beauty of the car. Bonnet, car structure everything is such that it couldn’t get any better. The car is probably the best looking in 1000cc hatchback category. Interior is no doubt very spacious and comforting. The speedometer is big and illuminated and adds to the beauty. The dashboard is a bit too big in my opinion so one doesn’t get the proper view of where the car is going to end. This is not very good in tight parking spaces. Except that the car has excellent interior and exterior. Seats are comfortable for long trips.
Passo/Boon
Exterior: 8/10Points
Interior: 9.5/10Points
The passo is not beauty contest winner, but it is fairly decent looking car from outside. From front its
front it offers a good view, side view is also good, but lacks a bit on back. Its body is not proportioned like vitz, the body is wider at back maybe due to more space at back and seats.
Now coming to interior which is the probably the best thing in the car, cabin is bigger than corolla/civic. Front two seats have so much space that even 3 guys can sit there because there is no gear box in the conventional place it is steering column one. And the hand brake is where a manual car has clutch so it has all this space left empty and it feels so roomy inside.
Builtin console is great. Visibility is practically present as the gauges and dials are large and the font is readable. The speedometer is probably better than vitz. The back seats are foldable and they also have a special feature where they slide and a small pillow type thing also pops up so one can also sleep with pillow in long drive. Seats height can also be adjusted. Comfortable seats. Other things are pretty much same.
Build Quality (Both 10)
Same build quality interior and exterior wise, solid panels, joints etc.
Some things which I don’t like in both cars is the doors don’t close smoothly, they are rather hard and noisy.
Doors and steering dashboard etc rattle when you are on a bad road but are smoothest on good road.
Both cars have excellent isolation from outside noise.
Performance (comparing with 1000cc automatic cars)
Passo/boon
* Acceleration: 9.00/10 Points
Acceleration of passo/boon is good with respect to 1000cc auto. in city it offers okay performance when it comes at flooring a pedal once a while but its no match for manual. Cultus or vitz manual are faster, but then again these trolleys aren’t meant for drag races
I examined 0-100 km time of boon and it is exact 14 seconds. Its okay in my opinion.
• Road grip Handling: 8.00/10 Points
With EPS, ABS, etc etc the drive is very easy and the car handles easily, turning radius is also less. The steering is super smooth and even better than sedans. But a word of caution. Due to more ride height don’t take sharp turns on high speed. I took one and believe me it was not a good experience. I was driving the way I used to drive city exis and it had superior road grip so when I took a sharp turn in speed the car just skidded and it was very difficult to get it back, thank god there was no traffic at that time but I learned my lesson and would never try that again.
• Breaking (10/10): I don’t even have to tell you guys how the breaks are suppose to be but still they are great. 4 wheel abs what else do you want. Excellent braking.
• Fuel Average (9/10)
Normal city drive with drive ranging between speeds from 0-90 km/h I managed to get 15-18 with light foot. With heavy foot its almost 11-12. Highway is in-between 18-20. Its okay I think because the 660ccs are more or less same. Because 660ccs engines have to perform to their limit once they cross 90kmph as it revs very high at that time. So they give worse fuel economy on speeds above 110. Like 10-12 km in a litre.
I have driven both cars on petrol from day one so don’t know about cng average.
• Suspension: (8.5/10)
Good suspension as it is mostly quiet but on bad roads the conditions are not so good. The suspension is pretty much comparable to 2001-6 civic as they have same suspension. Excellent on smooth roads and okay on bad ones.
• Driving experience/ thrill /excitement factor (6/10)
I gave it pretty less due to the fact that you have nothing to do once you are driving. You don’t even have gear stick where you can put your hand. It becomes so boring and on highways the condition is very bad. And worse when you are driving alone. One almost sleeps driving. Even mehran gets better points here because you have to do so much to keep it running on the road and it keeps you engaged all the time so you don’t lose focus from road.
Toyota Vitz
Acceleration: 8.00/10 Points
Vitz is comparatively much slower and noisy in acceleration.
I examined 0-100 km time of boon and it is exact 16 seconds. It’s a bit less than normal due to cvt gearbox.
• Road grip Handling: 8.00/10 Points
With EPS, ABS, etc etc the drive is very easy and the car handles easily, turning radius is also less. Same case here that not good road grip and the car skids easily when taking sharp turns on high speeds.
• Breaking (10/10): ABS,Excellent brakes
• Fuel Average (8.5/10)
Normal city drive with drive ranging between speeds from 0-90 km/h I managed to get 13-16 with light foot. With heavy foot its almost 9-12. Highway is in-between 16-19. Good but passo has better
Suspension: (8.5/10)
Both passo and vitz suspension are almost same but vitz has probably a bit better comfort level on bad roads due to soft suspension type like corolla.
• Driving experience/ thrill /excitement factor (6/10)
Same case here. No fun in driving a auto/ cvt car.
Features:-
Passo/boon (10/10)
Vitz (9/10)
Passo has loads and loads of features compared to vitz. Sliding backseats to make bed. Height adjustment of seats. Push start. 8 airbags. One doesn’t gets bored discovering features inside the cabin. True keyless entry immobilizer etc so much more.
Verdict.
Nowadays passo has the same status which vitz had almost 4-5 years ago. That was the best time to buy vitz because it was a investment. My chacha bought vitz for 450k 2002 model FL, and sold for 760k. A profit of 60% of initial investment. Same is case nowadays with passo/boon, Fielder, airwave, ad van and probox. More and more people are going for them. On the other side people are shifting from 1300 and 1000cc to 660cc cars. Nowadays its not a good time to buy one, the prices are now gone sky high. A 660cc mira 2007 for 8 lakh can you believe it. In almost same price you can get ad van, passo etc which are far far better options. Also the suspension of 660 cars are not good and there is no availability of parts of these never heard cars. So everyone looking for a fuel efficient, very comfortable and goodlooking car within budget should get this without thinking twice. Don’t waste time as I have seen the same passo/boon which was sold 3 months ago for 7.30 is nowadays easily fetching 8.30. A difference of 1 lakh in 2,3 months.
Nowadays the price of a Scratchless clean ride with no problem in vitz 2006 1.0 model is almost 9.5lakh to 1 million in Islamabad.
Same condition full options passo or boon costs almost 8.30 to 8.50 maximum ( I am talking about the one with full options here).
