To add to your misfortune, I will add my story. Last year in January/February I was looking to buy a car for my son. I decided on a Passo as it was economical, had air bags as well as roomy. I finally found a car in a Pindi showroom on the GT road just past Bahria Town (I will not name this place for reasons I will tell later). Since the plan was to do some final checks (which I though would by OK), I will pay for the car and drive it back to my place in Islamabad. Hence my son drove me there and left me at the showroom. I already had all the cash with me in a bag. Since I got there early, only the caretaker was there. I thought I would do my final checks, I already knew that the car had a frontal accident for the auction sheet but it was not too bad. The repair work as you know is very good in Japan. The price had been adjusted accordingly. When I turned on the key, I noticed that the airbag check light did not come on. That was not acceptable since one of the reasons for going for a Japanese car vs a local Suzuki is the safety features. This means that the light has been disabled. NOT GOOD. I had already given advance or 10,000 the day before but had not noticed the air bag issue on that day in my hurry as my wife was waiting in the car outside.
The owner of the showroom turned up by 10 o'clock and we sat in the office to discuss the issue over a few cups of tea. By this time it was 12 o'clock and I began to feel as if I was about to faint. I called my wife who immediately guessed something was wrong from the way I sounded and got by son (who was in Rawalpindi) to pick me up from the showroom. All this time I firmly held on to the cash bag.
Later I was admitted to hospital where all test were done at a cost of Rs. 80,000/-. Nothing was found to be the mater. I till today believe that I was drugged through those cups of tea. Maybe to get the rest of the cash?? who knows? But I have no proof hence I cannot name this show room.
After a bit of fighting, my son went to retrieve the advance money. Moral of both these stories is that YOU HAVE TO BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN IT COMES TO BUYING USED CARS FROM SHOWROOMS.
