Toyota Passo engine overhaul or assembly swap

I have Passo 2007. It gives smoke and start consuming oil.120000Km on odo. Kindly suggest me which one is better engine overhaul or assembly swap??

I would suggest to go for rebuild / overhaul, using genuine / OEM parts, as per factory specs, and keeping everything stock.

In all big cities, you will definitely find good and reputed garages, whose mechanics can do the quality work in reasonable charges.

But i heared that these 1KR engines are of silver made and not possible for good rebuild but i visir Rehman autos at rawalpindi they said they are able to rebuild, rebuild cost is more than assemble swap. @rajaatta

I agree, but a rebuild / overhauled engine has warranty (if work done from some reasonable garage). 2ndly, you know your engine from day 1, and rebuild / overhauled, if done properly, lasts much much longer.

IMO, swapped engine / assembly does not have any warranty, as its previous history / condition is not known 100%.

Yes u r right. I have this car from last 02 years, it gives smoke when RPM reaches 4000, below this no sign of smoke, currently m using 0W-20, before previous owner used 20w-50

Brother if previous owner was using 20w-50, then it might be possible that some things with the engine were already wrong, and to cover them, he was using 20w-50, or, he was non-technical, and his mechanic was pouring 20w-50.

In either case, you should not have directly jumped to 0w-20, rather in steps (like 10w-40, 10w-30, 5w-30, 5w-20, and lastly 0w-20).

I am of the opinion that still, nothing that bad has happened, and your engine can work.

From next oil change, switch to Total Quartz 9000 Future Series 5w-30 or Kixx 5w-30, or in your particular case, PSO Cariant 5w-30.

If same problem persists, then from next oil change, Caltex / Havoline 10w-30.

Again, if same problem persists, then from next oil change, ZIC 10w-40 fully synthetic.

If issue does not get resolved, then go for rebuild / overhaul, and IMO, this is not currently reqd. Just try to cope up with this issue with engine oil.

Whichever oil you buy and use, just ensure that it is 100% authentic.

Thank u very much bro. Currently m using shell 0W-20, after 3000Km driven i think 600ml aprox. oil reduced. Now I have plan to change oil PSO cariant 5W-30.
Now kindly guide me should I change the oil now or change after 5000Km by topping 600ml.???

I suggest that you top up 600 ml with Shell 0w-20 now, and change oil, i.e. switch to 5w-30 after full 5,000 Kms.

No need to change right now.

And I am emphasizing again; whichever oil you buy and use, just ensure that it is 100% authentic and original.

If oil proves fake, then I am not responsible for anything.

If you do not find any reputed shop for buying PSO Cariant 5w-30, then I would suggest Total Quartz 9000 Future Series 5w-30, and you can have it from any reputed Total Fuel Stations.

As per https://www.hks-power.co.jp/en/product/oil/list/toyota.html , your Passo 2007 model requires 3.1L of engine oil with oil filter change, so ensure this quantity.

Irrespective its PSO, Total, Shell, etc., the best would be to go to that engine oil change shop / booth, which have your desired engine oil grade in 208L Drums.

It would be cheap (when compared to 1L, 3L, 4L, 5L, etc. packing), and when they will be filling it, any desired quantity can be poured, like 2.7L, 3.3L, etc. (which in case of other packing, not possible, and some oil will be left, to be stored for the time being, and used in future. So, storage seems a hassle, at least to me).

Get it rebuilded along with 1 year warranty and gurantee usage of 0w20 and 5w30 engine oil viscosity and drain intervals upto 15000kms

Perfect suggestion.
He should continue on 0w20 as the engine is sound and no timing components detoriation is recorded on the engine.
Crank shaft noise is not present
