Toyota Passo Engine Swap

A friend has a Passo 2nd Gen (2012 or 2013 model year). It has a 1.0 liter 1KR-FE engine which is on its last limbs, what are the viable bolt-on options he has? 1.3 or above only. if someone's from karachi, please bata de compression testing kaha se karwaoo?

I am confused between, in teeno mai fark kia hai, konsa lagana chaye? Aur b options hain bolt-on to bata dijiye.

I would highly recommend swapping the engine for an identical assembly. Getting the wiring right for the 1.3 will be an issue for most local shops.

1nrfe is 1329 cc 99 hp engine NEW YARIS ENGINE
2szfe is 1298 cc 86 HP engine
2nzfe is 1299 cc engine 84 hp VITZ engine

1.3 engine would be better in terms of fuel economy
Doesn't Vibrate like 1krfe & it isn't that noisy like 1krfe

I'd suggest getting another 1KR assembly as it's very cheap and availibilty is not an issue. 1NR makes more power (100 HP) and is equipped with new Local Yaris so engine will be available some time later on or maybe it is present in the market, it is newer than 2SZ and 2NZ and gives great fuel average mated to a CVT which people have said in the thread. You may also consider 1NZ 1500cc however i think 2NZ and 1NZ could require some sort of alteration. Don't know about the 4-cylinder 2SZ but it came in 1st and 2nd gen. Vitz so maybe it would be bolt-on. Resale would be compromised a little with an engine swap though.

If u upgrade from 1.0 to 1.3 , computer (ecu) and some electrical wiring also changed, Dont go 4 this, swap the assembly with 1.0 1krfe, it is available in market about 28k to 32k

Resale will also be compromised with changing the engine assembly cause engine number will also be change

He drives mostly on motorways and says the engine was quite slow to begin with, therefore he was opting for a 1.3

That puts 1nrfe out of consideration. So about 2NZ-FE, will it be a bolt-on swap? Aur 2nz-fe to corolla mai b tha, does vitz 1.3 have the same engine? and what would be the whole estimated cost.

1KF-FE engine overhaul parts are available brand new.

yard engines have highly doubtful life. Nobody know the actual history & origin of it. Since Feb 2020 there has been zero landing of scrap cargo from anywhere.

every engine at scrapyard is there for a reason. Those are either from a write-off vehicle or have completed the working life been replaced somewhere else in the world.

with engine rebuild you have advantage, there will be no endorsement to registration book. You can maintain the engine once again for next 200,000 kms. Changing of engine oil every 5000+ kms using 5W-30 engine oil of your own choice.

It is common bolt on swap in 1krfe Vitz so it would be bolt on swap
Vitz had both engines in it got confused with you r question & just checked Wikipedia!!!

That's a good point. The car hardly accelerates on full throttle and it consumed almost all of the oil (5w30) within the 5000km interval, my friend was worried. However after driving 1000km on 10w40 there is little to no reduction of engine oil, but the car has become even more sluggish.
I will suggest him to go to Jameel Autos today, do they charge reasonably and also can they provide a solution for his AC issue (keeps on tripping), local mechanic asked to install an old compressor (bagher sensor wala), I told him not to.

Normally problem Passo has encountered in pakistan is the gearbox... its gearboxx is different compare to the 1 given in vitz
i have replaced 2 engine for that issue when sourcing same gear was a problem and engine

if you have only issue with engine ..it can easily be overhauled..... ring sets and overhauling kits from TP are great ..... will not recommend you to go for bigger size piston if required or over size crank bearings ....

replace the standard rings...i did on my car like 30k back ..it was using 5W30 ....and after the ring set replaced i m still using 5W30 ...

The problem with 1000 cc , it is underpower for Passo .The fuel quality is poor and it is not giving much power to engine and often face engine knocking issue. if some body is having complete information of upgrading to 1300 cc , please share.
Now a days mechanic are not interested for maintaining engine and advise to change the block.

996cc Vitz/passo is underpowered because of power to weight ratio
Plus 996cc 1krfe engine is a 3 cylinder engine every 3 cylinder engine has an knocking issue
Fuel economy isn't good because of power to weight ratio
Mechanics not wanting to work on this engine cause of their labor charges MAYBE
If a mechanic suggests swapping assembly just swap an 1.3L engine it in
In both of these cases you would have to change the engine number on the book!!!

I thought no effect on registration book if you are only changing assembly.. isn't it required for engine swap.
