Toyota Petron Motor Oil

Hi,I want to know that engine oil offered by toyota dealers known as petron is it fully sysnthetic and for how much km it can last?

toyota people says it should be change at 2500 km for new and old vehicles both,but in owners manual it is written that oil should be change at 5000!

They offer two oils one should be changed at 2500 and other is 5000.
one costs 1700 other is 3000 rs as per my info.

Totally agreed these oils are far better than the quality and API provided by toyota.

Petron is normal AP SL/CF 20W-50 Oil and it lasts for 5000 km for New Z-Gen

can you please put some more light on enviromental part?
i have just changed my corolla's oil after 4700 km and now dealer told me to come back after 7k km

our environment is very dusty and polluted... owners manual recommends oil change after 10k.. but it can barely make it till 5k... even the mechanics at toyota wud reccomend no more then 5k.
so i personally dont go by the manual for these kinda things.

Im sorry but how is exactly DUST going to get into your oil ? Anyone who knows how engines works would know oil doesnt flow into your combustion chamber where you may find dust unles u got bad rings ... so exactly how is oil going to be effected by dust is beyond me!

I dont believe this 'environment' thing. Makes no sense. Dusty would mean you gotta keep changing the air filter, but quicker oil changes ? Say what ?

ok then if not dust and not pollution.. then YOU explain to me why the owners manual reccoemnds oil change after 10k.. but regardless of oil they all wear out at 5-6k km max.. going to 10k is literally impossible...

Because the oils YOU put in are not meant for 10,000km.

Try ZiC XQ, Shell Helix Ultra or Mobil 1 and you shall see how it does 10,000km **** easy.

Ive personally used ZiC A+ in my Honda City till 7,500km ... it was STILL viscous and not black or dark brown, but a nice shiny slightlyyyy darker than when new golden.

Now please you explain to me how in the world is DUST going to get into the oil. Also consider there is far more dust in other places .... such as UAE. Yet they dont have to change oil quicker.

Oil in an engine is sealed tight ... unless you open the oil cap and dump a bag of sand into it.

Secondly, the petron 4L is around 1650 and TGMO (Tin packing) is around 1850 from the dealership (toyota islamabad)...now they have Petron available in large drums so i think you dont need to buy them in packing of 4L or 3L....(the total charges upon actual quantity poured)

Thirdly, the owner's manual of Corolla, which covers Altis as well, never recommends 10,000km oil change interval. it is 5000 for gasoline and 2500 for diesel cars.

Fourth, what i have learnt from them is Petron (20W50) is mineral where as TGMO is semi-syntetic.....both are good oils from the reviews i have gathered from Pakwheels and other sources. Petron can sustain an ODI of 5000 kms as well but of course it's the owner's choice in the end....your car comes factory filled with this Petron (20w50)..

Fifth, if your car is still under warranty and you want this to remain intact use this oil and maintain a proper record of oil servicing through dealership ......it is not a bad oil after all....have heard bad comments about Honda oil but Toyota has a decent product line.....

I myself would like to pour 5W30 (Tin pack) upon first oil change of my GLi.

I have used caltex/toyota and honda genuine oils (whatever they are), and shell so far... and none were good after 4-5k. i changed them quite earlier around 3.5k to be on the safe side.
i have poured zic fully synthetic in my cars recently, am awaiting results.

and i understood your point on dust having an effect on engine oil. i m not claiming anything abt that anymore

Well these engines are not entirely new engines i mean they were made about 10 years ago .....so i don't think that usual mineral based oils can become obsolete so quickly.Its just way of getting more money out of our pockets .first the wrote in manual you can change oil at 5000 then said no you change oil at 3000 now they are getting to 2500km......Both honda and corolla get oil from mobil /caltex etc and just say its been specially made for corolla or Honda and charge 300 rupees more than regular caltex of same specification...

I just change oil at 4000km(caltex havolinne formula) with new genuine filter ....i think we should use the oil with specification written on manual from any good company with reasonable price...its not easy to buy oil just because mechanic think so...Indus would not waste a minute to change directions regarding oil change interval if that was really necessary ...it would only bring them more revenue ...

ok here are my readings
first oil change in 5 months after 4727 km
and now i have been told to come back at 12727 km for next oil change which means my next oil change is after 8k km which i will cover in aproxx 7 to 8 months
and i after the oil + oil filter change i didnt felt any thing performance wise.
so i personally think 5k is fair milage for an oil change

I dont trust Toyota Honda 'genuine' oils, who purchase oils from a 3rd party of who knows what grade etc making them not geniune by defination in the first place.

Caltex Havoline Formula 10w/30 wont last more than 5000km either.

Typical luutnay ka tareeqa. I wouldnt be surprised if the oils they get is worst than whta you get in the mraket.

modern air filters do not filter particles under 30 microns efficiantly, it's these small particles which make their way into your oil and can lead to bore polishing and bearing wear. same applies to oil filters. there is another thread about this discussion on PW where this is explained in detail.

dear all,, i dunno weather this thread is alive or not,,, but lemme share my experiences i hold Toyota corolla Indus 2000 and used zic a+, zic a, shell (blue one), castrol gtx, mobil 1, but to be honest after turning towards petron i m pretty much satisfied,,,, engine seems silent and acceleration is fine as well, its like 3 times ive changed petron in my car. and believe me it is is fine condition at 5000km,,,,well as per my satisfaction it dosen't seem well to me going beyond 5000km.

but again its what i feel...
