I am driving a Surf 3.4 2002, earlier it gave an average around 7. I got little servicing done on the throttle and spark plugs replacement, now for the last 350 km the average has not gone below 8.5 km /l. It was all driven with focus on getting good fuel average.
It includes traveling within Islamabad. Actually the condition of engine matters, if its good it should be around 8.
The heavy foot and light is main factor in fuel economy.
BTW if you are looking for a 3.4 you should not bother too much about fuel average.
