No doubt Prius is bit pricey car all around the world because of its features and technology! Its a success around the world is also linked to incentives provided by governments because of its fuel efficiency and low emissions. It gets tax breaks on business use, its allowed in restricted areas without charges, it gets none or very less road tax and insurance. Just to give you an example in London, Its allowed to enter Congestion charge zone of central London without any charge while other cars have to pay 8-10 GBP per day to drive into London during day time. While a normal 1800CC car get 250 GBP road tax per year, prius get it for only 10 GBP or so! Same goes for its lower insurance and business user tax refunds.
Its also in fashion to show Prius that you are environment friendly even you could afford and own a gas guzzlers!
So Prius success is not simply just fuel economy, its users gets other benefits on top of that and if that are included it make more sense to buy this car! In Pakistan Prius doenst has this kind of appeal and incentives and everything is down its cost saving and its market price is not targeted at middle class buyer at all. Unless there are incentives offered with its less likely to be very successful in Pakistan but sure people will still buy it! While its just another car around the world and doesnt compete with prestige cars, in Pakistan its price tag actually putting it almost against prestige cars!
