Are you for real? How can you diagnose rings piston dead for a check light.
Please don't make bogus assumption. although the owner correct the mileage is 117k, even 170k is nothing for cars maintained properly

It got fixed.
Sold the car later . Not sure if the new owner has any issues
Rings and pistons dead mean oil in combustion chamber, loads of oil in combustion chamber will destroy the catalyst converter whose purpose is to REDUCE carbon emissions in the first place also oil accumulating on O2 sensor which again will burn its heater hence O2 sensor dead. I assumed IF his car is driven 170,000kms than this might be the problem. Now read it again and again and again to see what I wrote.
1krfe by Toyota is 1000cc 3 Cylinder engine whose max life is around 150,000kms after which it needs an overhaul. Rare are the cases where these 1000cc boxes go beyond 150K kms without consuming excessive oil.
Sold mine at 165,000+ was in perfect condition. I don't know what 1kr are you talking about.
And there u have it, read ur first reply in this POST abt problematic 1krfe. Now did u read the my BOGUS ASSUMPTION again?
Not at all problematic sold it to upgrade to 2015 Vitz again.
Usual routine issues can come in any car.
I know it has never left me standing on the road.
Any update? I suggest you hook up your car with OBD scan tool and read the live data for any unusual reading to diagnose the exact problem.
Yes There is an update... Mechanic just replaced Catalytic Converter free of cost/credit. He said that in case check engine light comes back then we will be needed to replace O2 downstream sensor but if light doesn't come till 500 km then i'll have to pay him Rs.10000/-. Till now I have driven 350km and no check engine light, no more smoke from exhaust, pickup improved.
Glad to know that. Which Cat converter is that? The one placed in engine bay or the secondary on in exhaust line?
The one is connected to engine
What is the progress till now? Working fine?
Yes it's working fine. No check light as yet
So the fault was with cat converter..nice
I am still not sure what actual problem was. I got changed upstream sensor and CAT at first stage. As per mechanic's statement that "I am installing a kabli cat converter and I am not charging for it if same code (P0420) appear before 500 km if the code appear after 500 km I will charge Rs.10,000/- for the converter and then I will replace downstream sensor too) the code didn't appear before 500 km but came back with another code (P0352 – Ignition coil B, primary/secondary -circuit malfunction) I replaced all 3 coils and clear the code and tested. P0420 appeared after 50 KM. Then i replaced downstream sensor too. Since then I have driven my car more than 250 km and no check engine light.
I have noticed white smoke from exhaust on high RPM like (3500 rpm and above) since last replacement of O2 downstream sensor I used to drive 40-60 km pH speed (1800 RPMS Max). But yesterday I drove beyond 1800 RPM and the check engine light appeared again. What could be the reason of white smoke? And how to deal with it?
