The new gen 1kr has too much tight clearence of piston to bore distance and slso it utilizes much narrower oil control rings and it's expander is curl type spring which has no clearness at all only 0w20 can penetrate that expanders and the drain hole inside pistons are also too much small. So using any thing above 0w20 will be viscious and doesn't penetrate at those sites and if by any mean it access that area it would not exit that area and due to excessive heat range their unescaped starts to burn their and form heavy sludge their causing the engine oil control rings to fail prematurely.
So toyota is now advising much lower viscosity especially like 0w16 for use in these engines to obtain much superior fuel economy and deposit control prevention. Also THEIR Are Several CLASES Of Engine LUBE With DIFFERENT Flash Points Always Use CATAGORY 3 0w20 Which Is 100%Synthetic Remember 100% Synthetic Had A Price Range Starting From. 7000pkr all oils available below this range are CATAGORY 1&2 ratings with only single certification of API SN only.
Proper 100% synthetic has minimum 3 certifications at least.
Like API SN , ILSAC GF4-5 , ACEA A1/B5 , A5/B5.
