Well... YES, technically it is possible and can be true, but I said it based on my personal experience.
I have owned Passo in the past, and once I poured Caltex / Havoline fully synthetic 5w-40 in it.
Car almost died, with drastic drop in pick, power, fuel economy, etc.
Where I had been getting 18~19 kmpl fuel economy within city, on same driving conditions, car had been giving me 13~15 kmpl fuel economy.
Everything came back when I changed engine oil early, and returned to the right / recommended engine oil grade(s) i.e. 5w-20, or 5w-30.
(Nothing else was messed up. Just oil change, pick, fuel economy, etc. gone. Then oil change, and everything returned)
